Schedule an appointment with any family practice or primary care doc. They will help get it scheduled.

Had my first at 51. 3 polyps, 2 were precancerous.
I have to go back in 2 years.
My female cousin died of colon cancer after a long fight at 56.
And my insurance covers preventive procedures 100%, so $0 out of pocket.

5 polyps were 'adenomatous' or precancerous. So Doc wants me to return in 3 years for another colonoscopy.
You find 5 precancerous polyps in me and I'm gonna be fighting to half that, or at least be a year early.

it's not a fun experience. but, you're out for most of it anyway.
The prep is fricking miserable!

I know this sounds stupid but how do you schedule one?
If you are in BR I went to the gastroenterology place on Jefferson. Dr. Barker. The anesthesia doc or nurse was pretty good looking and had some nice sweater puppies. Don’t recall her name. She said alright I’m going to push the propofol now. I felt it go up my arm for 2 seconds said “holy shite” and I was gone. Woke up like nothing happened except farting like crazy.

They are shitty but worth it.

While recovery room full of farting.

Poop in that little box at MINIMUM. Better than nothing.
I have to have them every other year (43) and have for about 7 years after I had cancer.
It’s not that bad of an ordeal. Beats the alternative.

The first one I had was brutal because you still had to drink that horrid gallon jug of prep and the drugs they used for anesthesia would knock you out of commission for several hours after.
Last one I did prep was a couple of pills and sweet, sweet propofol (sorry MJ) for the anesthesia.
It was like taking the best nap of your life with no hangover effect.
Most colo-rectal cancers are super slow developing, so unless you have a family history of the disease, one colonoscopy can last you many years depending on your age.

I appreciate your message Bubba. I just turned 50 and have been putting it off. I guess I better go ahead on and bite the bullet and sign up to get butt blasted.

I’m actually looking forward to this part. My friend took another one of our friends to get the procedure done many years ago. She said they had to sit in a room with other people just ripping arse the entire time and wouldn’t let them leave until the other friend farted enough

That’s when the older guy at work offers to give you an amateur colonoscopy when his wife is out of town.
I swear I don’t know why I keep falling for it.

Get it done!
I was 64 and never had a colonoscopy. Went to a regular checkup with my PC doctor. He said you been putting this off long enough, it's time. I relented and had it done. After the procedure, the gastro doc came to me with a long face and told me he removed a large polyp that he was pretty sure would be lab tested as cancerous and it was. Stage 3 with possible involvement for some adjacent lymph nodes.
Underwent 30 days of chemo radiation with surgery scheduled 6 weeks later. About a week before the scheduled surgery the colon surgeon had an MRI done and the tumor could not be detected. He did another colonoscopy on me a few days later and the only evidence of the tumor was a tiny white scar where the tumor used to be. Surgery was canceled.
Since then I go every 3 months with alternating MRI and colonoscopy and now 2-1/2 years later, still cancer free.
My oncologist told me that less than 10% of chemo radiation patients have their cancer disappear before surgety, so I was one of the lucky ones.

I gladly shite my brains out for a day to get a recovery day in bed with no kids bugging me. Yes, I milks my post-scope recovery

You don’t even have to get a colonoscopy now.
You have just have your poop analyzed and they can tell with equal accuracy whether you have any cancerous or precancerous cells being shed.

I’m on the 3 year plan due to a benign polyp that keeps growing back.

Dr said I could go 7 years
I had my first around this time last yr at 49yrs old. They found no polyps and I have no family history of colon cancer. So the Dr said I could go 10yrs. I was very surprised by that.

Correct, it’s totally painless. The biggest inconvenience is the prep but it’s not really all that bad. And you only have to do it once every five years. So just man up for a day and you’re good.
