there are millions of students that are taking on $20K to $40K of debt for degrees that don’t produce enough income to justify it.

I call bullshite. There are not millions of Ethnic dance majors & underwater basket weaving majors. There are thousands, but not millions.

The high income fields you listed are some of the most popular majors out there. Nursing & finance especially.

I hired an apprentice recently. 20yo. Really smart kid, kind of a Baw. Athlete. After HS he went to UC Santa Barbara as a history major. Woke up and saw his future was poverty. Called his parents and said he wanted to drop out and learn a trade. He said his parents were ecstatic

They are both old school engineers

I just don’t see my daughter wiring up a 220 outlet. Or a 110 for that matter. In fact I’m quite certain she’s never even changed a light bulb.

This actually made me laugh, amongst a bunch of dumb posts arguing about trades.

Nobody said there are millions of Ethnic Dance majors. Relax. The issue isn’t tiny niche majors. It’s the huge low-earning ones. Psychology, Education, Communications, Liberal Arts, Social Work, Criminal Justice… those pump out nearly a million graduates every year, and about half of them take on $20K–$40K of debt for salaries in the $35K–$45K range. That’s where the millions come from. Not underwater basket weaving. Just regular, everyday low ROI degrees.

Only about 25% of students choose those high ROI majors. The other 75% pile into psychology, education, communications, liberal arts, sociology, and criminal justice. Most students aren’t choosing the high income fields you’re talking about.
