The pagans have Saturnalia or whatever. They just use the same time of the year to celebrate. Though they were first.
Christians just decided it was as good a time as any.

June 19, 1865, although the Emancipation proclamation was signed 2 years earlier. There were no radios, television, or social media. So obviously news travel slow. Not all slaves were freed with the Emancipation Procolmation. So about 2 or 3 months after the war, union soldiers made their way to Galveston, Texas, with news that the war had officially ended, and all slaves were to be freed.

You are wrong. The last slaves were freed as a result of the ratification of the 13th amendment, Dec 6th, 1865.
Where did slavery exist after June 19th until Dec 6th? The North.
The emancipation proclamation only freed slaves in states rebelling against the federal government.
This is a Texas holiday.

Fair enough, it's more about the symbolism. It's a day to celebrate becoming free and no longer being slaves.
We can do this nitpicking all day for different holidays. Jesus was not actually born on December 25, Easter changes days every single year. It's a random day April, but who's to say that Jesus didn't rise again on a Tuesday in September..
Did the first Thanksgiving really occur on the 4th Thursday in November?
The 4th of July is widely accepted, even though the vote for indepence was approved on July 2. Even moreso, we didn't actually win the war for like another 6 years. I would argue that America wasn't truly independent until we officially won the war.
So yea, you can certainly nitpick on June 19th being the day to celebrate the end of slavery. Just be prepared to nitpick every other single American holiday as well.

I honestly don't know why people care about this
An emancipation holiday of some sort seems completely reasonable and worthy of celebration. I'd much rather the country focus on advances and celebrations of black history and influence rather than obsessing about the unforgivable sin of whiteness
