Thanks for the heads up. We have all Samsung appliances and have really loved our washer so far, but I didn't know it was a death machine time bomb.

I've heard nothing but bad things about Samsung appliances. Surprising considering how good their tv's are.

Between this and the exploding bomb phones, they should probably just focus on tv's

Samsung offered me $550 ($700 if I buy a Samsung) or to get it serviced and extend the warranty a year. She said the servicing only takes 15 minutes.

Would love to risk it and just take the $550 and do nothing. What y'all think?

Thanks Nap!

My mom's is on there WA45H70000 AW/A2. I went and put in the model and serial number at their site. They're not even offering her $350.00 if she doesn't buy one of theirs. She bought some kind of extended warranty from Lowes, so we're going to go talk with them about that.

My dad had a stroke, so I should say, "I'm going down to talk with them about it."

If I have one of these models but haven't had an issue yet what should I do right now?

call the 800 number I listed in the OP.

Do that tomorrow and get in the system. The fail rate on these has been insane. Some admins on an appliance thread were upset with me a few years ago for calling them junk and pointing out the fact that both the pumps on these machines and the supports have both been upgraded yet not offered to the customers for free by the company.

A lot of techs want you to get these because they are easy to work on and the markup on parts is higher on them than many other units.

I try to be straight up to people about what is junk, especially on forums.

I have this model. I think they are offering a $496 rebate if I get another Samsung and $100 less if I get any other brand. I actually like the washer and wouldn't mind keeping it. Are there any recommendations if you should get the repair or get a new washer? To get a similar model from Samsung would still cost me $50-$100 after the rebate.

But again, I have had no complaints, and I like the 4.8 cuft of space in it.

ETA: I have been using it fairly heavily for exactly (to the day) 2 years.

Was just looking at one of these at Lowe's earlier. On sale for $499 ($350 off). Are you saying if I buy this in the next few days, I'll never be able to have it serviced?

You may get a Samsung factory service company to fix it, but I won't and most companies won't work on recalled machines.

Say I change a part on your machine and then two months later it pops like in my earlier pics, who are you going to blame?
The repair guy who just touched it? Or Samsung?
It's not worth the risk.

I'm actually blanketly no longer working on any Samsung top loaders.
I just plan to refer people to the recall info. All other Samsung appliances, sure.
The much larger companies won't anymore either, they are more worried about liability than I am.

(to be quite honest after seeing what the Samsung response is, it may be smarter to keep working on them..$$$$, people rarely complain about spending 'free' money)

If the servicing is only the springs, than maybe. Some models aren't as affected as others.

I would look under your machine, if the pump is mounted to the tub, I would ask for the new pump relocation kit, they will know what you mean.

The quick fix is upgraded springs and a relocated pump, but I am not sold that will permanently fix.

We have one that had the cheap discharge pump fitting. It broke and we had water everywhere in our washroom. Fortunately it was an easy fix

I will check to see if it is on the recall list

Thanks

On some models you only have to replace the springs and the pump.

I am just not sure if it's really a permanent fix. It's around $175 to change the springs and $200 to change the pump. Both at the same time would be $320-350 ish.

So I mean if you like it you could keep using it.
It seems they are giving based on which models it is and the estimated cost of each.

The springs have been shite for a while, and the pump getting banged up is due to the springs failing.

If you like it and it's fine, take the money and sit on it.

Unless worst case happens it could get repaired cheaper, I was just advised by many to no longer work on them until an accepted fix was approved by the appliance servicers groups.

My mom has one of those machines. Would you recommend another samsung machine or the money to buy something else?

That is how they get ya! They start out all smooth and working and shite. Then they break down, with higher parts costs and labor. It's like the frozen chosen all over again.

parts are cheaper and labor is about the same. It's that it's a foreign brand and less independants work on them so you can basically charge what you want to repair.

I hate that they don't box their parts, so they always look like you are installing used parts

If it were me I would keep the money and wait until the machine started having balance issues.

If I weren't a diy guy I would take the money and buy something else.

If they are saying it's an "easy" fix (not what I was told last week) then maybe it's not that bad.
I just know that if I were to fix a recalled unit and there was an issue and it came back to me monetarily, my insurance would not cover it if the repair was done on a recalled machine.
(same with scratch and dents with the model and serial removed)
