No way. I have had some great laughs over the years because idiots use this then say something totally inappropriate thinking it was just going to one person.

If you want to spare yourself a lengthy meeting, and you have any writing talent at all, volunteer to review the document prior to the meeting and get rid of all the stupid crap then.

-However- make sure your assessment of your own skill is accurate, or you'll watch your coworkers pick your stuff apart for a couple of uncomfortable hours.

My personal solution for this is conveniently missing meetings like those. Wait until the "draft" from the meeting comes out and offer any comments at that time. For those that have caught me by surprise, the old "I gotta take this call" and then never return always works.

When the meeting stalls or goes over time just pick up your shite and walk out without comment. I did this so often at my last company that they wouldn't even pause.*

*Make sure your name is on the sign out front before using this tactic or it may not work out.

LoL. No. Read again. The sign out front, the big one with the names of all the partners. Good idea to be on that thing before you start telling people how to run the office.

I've had to call a meeting to do this, but this team was so scattered that it was pretty much the only way to get them to focus before proposal deadline. It does suck (but I am at least adept enough in Office to not be the bottleneck). At my old job, 5+ hour meetings for proposal think-tank sessions were not unheard of. I do not miss it.

I find that about 80% of Office meetings are things that could be done over email/IM.

I think you should call a meeting about these meetings.

Only Mayor SWB does such a thing, but has to create a special committee for it first. And then have a press conference for it. And have 1+ shady persons involved in the process. And then a press conference to clear that up.

In the Advertising biz we call that "copy by committee". It doesn't work.
