I was cutting grass at foreclosed houses, and went to this seemingly empty house to cut the grass. It was in a neighborhood where the house numbers were all fricked, and the houses around it didn't have numbers. The lot was about an acre, and right before I got done, this old man came out and asked me what I was doing. I told him what was up, and he informed me that I had the wrong house. Turned out, the house I was supposed to cut was having a big party for the squatters that lived there.

How fricking weird is it that you didn't do a damn thing but hide in your house? "He left before I could go talk to him"...such bullshite. The timing was perfect for you to talk to him the SECOND you saw him cutting your fricking grass.

I would test him by letting the ditch grow out again to see if he comes back. It's pretty obvious he is employing some kind of passive aggressive approach so you need to out-passive aggressive him. If he comes back wait til he has 1 more pass left (you obviously want him to finish) then go greet him with a bottle of water and tell him thanks. Be so nice that he has no choice but to be nice back. If you can read people at all you will be able to tell if he's faking it. If he is tell him you can handle your own lawn.

Exactly. This guy was sending you a message to keep your lawn up. The reason he only cut 4 lanes was to intentionally compel you to finish the job due to how shitty it looks only half mowed. Meanwhile, you hid in your house while he wrecked shite in your yard. He has the upper hand on you and will brazingly make you and your yard his bitch henceforth unless you take a stand. Get your push mower out tomorrow and mow out a phrase like:

I live next door to a rent house. When I got tired of looking at the tall grass I would mow their front yard while they were gone. It only took me about 15 minutes and then I didn't have to look at it. I trimmed the bushes too a few times. They brought me over a 12 pack once. I don't know why landlords don't build this into the lease, badically prepaid lawn care.
My favorite was the renters who would rake a pile of leaves in the front yard and leave it.

I rent a house and lawn care is on us. But we take care of it like we're supposed to. I don't see why a "rent house" lawn would be less taken care of than other houses. Most people I see who just let their lawns go are people who have been there forever. As a renter you sign a lease stating that you will take care of certain things or they can kick you out so there's a little extra reason to keep things on the up and up.

When I was growing up my dad would frequently make me mow one of our four closest neighbrs yard "just to help out"...
All of the Neighbors took good care of their lawns but my dad still made me do it...really use to piss me off and a lot of my Neighbors didn't like it either.

I thought this thread was about me for a second. 
but I don't have a rider and there's no ditch.
I usually mow over into my neighbors yard each time I mow. I don't mind it, because I think they're college kids and I remember how hard it was to find time or care to mow when I was in college.
Plus, my other neighbor sometimes does me a solid and mows into my yard as well. It's like a back scratching circle.

I live in a neighborhood with just 6 houses. Three of us cut grass that is not a part of any of the neighborhood's property. (We have a 6 acre lot in the neighborhood that has not been built on) And we routinely cut into others/each others yards when doing so... no be dig deal.
1. Assume the guy was just trying to be nice before becoming offended.
2. Talk to him and find out what is going on.
3. If you determine he was being passive aggressive ask him to stay out of your yard.
Then go out one night and put a couple pieces of rebar in your ditch. Drive them into the ground and leave enough out to ruin his blades. He will get your message. (For your blades sake...remember where they are)
Just kidding...I would not do that.
I might get some short lengths of green nylon rope and put in my ditch however.
