Update... He is in a medically induced coma. His name is Chris Green. The cops were instrumental in rescuing and quickly garnering medical help for him while the protestors sat and prayed.

Looks like in the video i posted that they are trying to blame the police for just standing back and letting them do it, therefore the police are to blame.

No, whichever "elected official" told the police to stand down is in trouble.
1) The police were told to protect the monument, they did. The arrested members of the NAACP leadership that went to protest at the site earlier in the day.
2) During the zoom city council meeting, the black male member is on camera saying, we need a presence (police) and make sure it is safe and ended with
"we need to ensure that the Confederate Monument is no longer vandalized or defaced"
3) Police on the scene were told to stand down by an unnamed "elected official"
