Bingo.

The city grew outward along Florida Blvd, Perkins, Nicholson, Government, Plank.

I-10 was built right through the center of town in mostly low income areas and (beyond Valley Park), very rural areas. That's when the sprawling started being more concentrated to southeast instead of being more evenly distributed to the east, south, and north.

I think the areas like Zachary and Central would probably be a lot bigger today if the road network in the northern part of the parish was more developed in the early/mid 20th century. They'd probably be a lot more developments like Broadmoor or Sherwood there now.

OK...some of that makes sense...HOWEVER, how can one explain the ONE LANE I-10 merge lane @ the Miss. River bridge ?
The idiots that designed, signed off on etc. should have been shot, right then and there...the fact that no-one seems to know who they are or where they went, is reprehensible !

That's not city government. Why would they propose something they have no authority to do and nowhere near the money to do anything.

They have long since passed away. That section of I-10 deck has never been upgraded or expanded since it was built.

And that I-10/I-110 merge point is fricking terrible. It's been a nightmare for decades.

It was designed in the late 50's by engineers who have long since passed on.

...for about a fifth of the traffic we have now. I also imagine drivers back then were about 500% more responsible than the ones on the Interstate now. Huge part of the problem are daily crashes because some dumb arse is changing lanes at 85 mph while posting to Facebook.

Take all that money and build a interstate around baton rouge. I love being able to go around new orleans and would love to do the same with baton rouge.

I approve of this road improvement tax hike. Nothing yells progress and improvement than a property tax hike for road improvements!

Exactly, but since 1962 how much of those type interstates are still as they were originally constructed and still in service?

Because a majority of the money comes from an increase in homeowners tax, and because you are exempt for the first $50k of value, virtually not a single democrat will be taxed.
A half cent sales tax increase brings BR tax rate to 10.5% virtually the highest in the state next to orleans parish...any similarities?
Slowly trying to be New Orleans, and slowly people will move away from Baton Rouge and you'll have a miniature Detroit.

Love it. We voted down the plan to widen Lee Road no more than a year ago, and here it is, on the ballot again.

They're just going to keep at it until it sticks.

Some may want it wider, but I don't. I live in Southdowns, and don't want the added traffic. I understand if some want it widened. But it will never get my vote.

It doesn't appear to be proposing a sales tax increase.

It appears to just reallocate the half cent sales tax approved in 2006 to maintenance instead of new construction and establishes a new increase in property tax for road and infrastructure enhancements.

I believe they want a new property tax to build the new roads.

I believe the 1/2 cents sales tax that was passed to do Greenlight 1 and to be used for maintenance (70/30) or something like that is now is to be used for maintenance.

But if that's true what will pay off the bonds sold to support GL 1?

Should be widened all the way to Gonzales.

I'm confused. I thought the widening of Nicholson in two segments (Burbank/gourrier to Lee AND Lee to Bluebonnet) was included on the prior green light plan. Was it green light 1 or 2? Is the extension widening from a Lee to Bluebonnet scraped now?

The state owns the land to build LA hwy 3125 from Assumption parish where it presently starts to I-10.

If they completed this it would go behind Plaquemine from LA 415. From this road you could get to the Sunshine Bridge, Wallace Lutcher bridge, or go all the way down to the bridge by Luling. If you wanted to build a future bridge South of BR you could connect this hwy to it. This would be a good bypass to help relieve some not all the trucks that backup the Miss river bridge.

This would also relieve LA 1 of some traffic to the chemical plants.

Iberville and WBRP politicians have been pushing this since 2010 and as you see nothing has happened.

That may have been proposed, but it was ultimately never included in the 2006 Green Light Plan that EBR voters passed.

Non of these projects will ever be accomplished.

Remember Louisiana has the general. Just like always they will promise improvements to get your tax money they siphon off the $$ to repay political buddy's and favors and Louisiana will continue to spiral down the toilet.

Buy I'm sure it'll be different this time....

Traffic flow problems in BR are almost always related to intersections.

As far as infrastructure goes, Green Light was actually pretty successful. Certainly more so than anything the state has done in a long time.
