What's the average price per square foot? $300, $400, $500

I was in a house for sale in central city the other day.
Two unit house, but still over $600,000 asking.
Also there was a bloody syringe on the sidewalk.
Insane the prices Uptown. I'd rather a nice huge Gentilly Ridge home fora few hundred less.

Which area are you looking at specifically?
In general, the traditionally desirable areas are over $300/ft now. If you look at a listing that impresses you, it’ll be closer to $400/ft. Nice address, good street, parking, backyard, it’ll be $400+.

I'm looking at a property that is listed at over $500 per sf and it just shocked me

It is utterly dependent upon location and condition- just like any market. Although the prices have risen, properties in Uptown have been sitting longer and buyers have more choices. The days of showing up at an open house with twenty people in scrubs waiting to see it are gone. The market is settling but not retreating.

Just live in Metairie/Bucktown area and get a whole lot more house for way cheaper plus investment will appreciate more. Uber is literally $10 to Anywhere in city

I don’t think you are correct on it appreciating more, but the rest is true

This isn't close to true. Bucktown to the Superdome is over $15 at this second.

I would rather not buy in Orleans Parish and have to rely on the city’s leadership for basic services.

This is the real reason you buy in Metairie.

It's insane to me that people who aren't crazy old money rich(can afford Newman etc) buy in Orleans Parish.
$300/sq ft and can't even send kids to public school.

Meh. They could try for Lusher or Ben Franklin.
Pricing in real estate is just insane. Blows my mind

Government subsidizes it. Most ppl get down payment help from HUD etc. That's a big driver of crazy real estate costs nobody talks about.

Were they asking extra for the free syringe?

If you're really on the ridge, it's worth it. My old apartment was on the ridge near City Park Ave and got minimal water during Katrina.
