I work in Ascension Parish, I buy everything in Ascension Parish. I never do anything in EBR, ever. I never drive around running errands or going to work, I never have to conduct business in Baton Rouge. I am a complete EBR hermit, so therefore I should just shut the frick up. /sarcasm
Nevermind that I was born and raised in East Baton Rouge Parish and lived there for roughly 75% of my life.

The tax request that was shot down last night was a property tax, not a sales tax and you live in a different parish so no you would not pay a dime towards the roads yet you would benefit by using them. Are you unable to comprehend that simple statement or are you really that obtuse?
Any road tax should be a sales tax so someone like you-who lives outside the parish but benefits the use of the roads will pay a portion when you purchase anything within the parish. You want to not pay it then buy in Ascension. However anyone in Ascension parish talking about EBR roads is rich considering yours are much worse and you won't even pay for those.

You can't compare Texas to Louisiana. They have cities with populations bigger than our entire state.
More people=more people driving=more people buying gas=more money brought in. HUGE difference.

All those people that can't afford to send their children to private schools in EBR and moved to the surrounding parishes that have better schools but still work in BR have nothing to do with this traffic problem.

It was a federal judge that single handedly destroyed EBR schools, not a local politician. And while schools are one reason for moving to neighboring parishes simple outward migration and cheap land is every bit as much a factor as it is with any growing metropolitan area. Those mobile and affluent enough take advantage which leaves lower income and impoverished left. Common sense will tell you the public schools will be better simply from the demographics. I'm fortunate enough to afford private school but it doesn't make me any happier that I have to write that check. The same check you wrote for your kids.

Airline should be limited access from the old bridge to Highland Road with "frontage roads on each side. This should have been done 30 years ago, but BR never got the federal dollars to pull it off.

That's only part of the truth, the fact was white politicians didn't want to obey the law and desegregate the schools. If they would have done a plan of their own that obeyed the law, they could have done things better. When they failed, the judge stepped in, and yes he screwed it up royally.
But to say it was all on the judge is not exactly right.

Having comparatively low property taxes to many other states doesn't mean that we are under taxed. They just collect the money using different methods in LA.

It's a class issue. Property taxes only affect people who own real property. They would rather have a sales tax so everybody would pay.

The bottom line is, government social intervention, created a factory that was very good at creating a social class that does not value education.
The politicians, through judge Parker, attempted to improve the schools by forced bussing of better students into the bad areas. Who could blame parents that had the means to move to the surrounding areas that did not bus students.
You're fooling yourself if you think they moved for any reason other than this.
Funny thing about the checks I wrote for my children's private school education, when I lived in Ohio, I also sent our children to private schools. We even lived in an area that was considered to have some of the best public schools in the state.

There's a bit more logic to it not passing than this. One of the big issues with the proposed tax is that the estimates were for absolute shite. One project that should have been about $300k was listed at $2M. This wasn't a road bill nearly as much as it was an attempt at a slush fund.
At the Council meeting members of the administration had hard times answering even the most basic questions about the bill.
This would have ended up being another CATS or CoA level of bullshite spending.
