One good think about covid, it made facial hair great again.
That said, in an office environment, a beard must the neatly trimmed.

Life is unfair, but guys that can grow a nice, full beard can pull it off a lot better than if the beard is patchy.
I have a goatee and I trim mine with a clipper and a No 1 spacer. I wouldn’t go anything longer than a No 2 spacer, regardless of the style of facial hair that I had. If it is patchy, I would be clean shaven.

You were told this at almost 7:00pm on a Friday for a professional job? Something about this smells of BS.

For the professional, white collar types, when is a beard unprofessional for you?
Lots of guys in the profession I come from wear a beard with no one questioning their professionalism.
I don't see the problem.

I want to be on your side, but how grizzly of a guy are you exactly? And are you client facing?

My company just changed its dress code policy about 5 years ago to allow beards. Prior to that only facial hair allowed was mustache and couldn’t go past the corners of your mouth. Happy day for me. I had a beard before I started and had gone 20 years clean shaven until they changed policy. Trim it once a week and clean up the neck and cheeks daily. Told the wife that once I retire I’m going full ZZ Top (Duck Dynasty for you young pups).

My HR rep is an early 30s hottie who the last time I saw her in person wouldn’t stop running her hands through my 4ish inch long beard.
We were talking about an open position I have and she just stood there most of the conversation running her hands through my beard. About 3 minutes in she asked if it was ok, like I’d say no. You’d have to be married or gay to say no.

Cavemen had facial hair.
Caesers were clean shaven.
Duck Dynasty didn't change the fact that civilized people have always been clean shaven.
Eta: Every lazy employee I've ever had had a beard, and several of them said it was because "I just don't want to shave"

You got to keep it trimmed/kept, and to long and stringy is t a good look.
Can't really take someone seriously when they have food in their beard either.
At least find an example online of how's yours really looks, to help us help you. Oh and don't think your wife didn't call your HR to give her an assist.

This is about as best and close of a resemblance. And yes, I’m in sales — Ag / Machinery no less.

As a white collar baw who receives frequent compliments about my beard, it’s not really about the length. It’s about how you keep it up. Line it up/trim stragglers properly, wash, and comb it out. Don’t let it make you look homeless.

I'm with your HR team. You gotta trim that back

I would think as long as it's groomed it shouldn't be a problem.

If you are in a customer-facing position, I get the grooming shite. You need to look sharp if you are representing the company.
If you are back-office or facilities, who gives a frick. Maybe an industrial job on a factory floor where a long beard could get your face ripped off in a machine they could say something. Or a cook, where a beard hair might shed off into a plate inadvertently, there could be a limit on beard length, it has to fit behind a mask or something.

I don't care too much if other people have beards unless it's Civil War-esque.
I've grown to dislike facial hair on my face though
