The Parker Solar Probe recently became the first space probe to journey within the Sun's outer atmosphere, thus becoming the first man made object to "touch the sun." It beamed back video as well as audio of its journey, capturing the sound of our star's intense solar winds:

While making its flyby at a distance of 3.8 million miles, the probe reached speeds in excess of 430,000 MPH, making it the fastest man made object to date.

Since sound doesn’t travel in space, how did they do that? Not being a smartass genuinely curious

Hearing the sun isn't normal.

But on acid, it is.

It's a good question and here's the ChatGPT answer ( ):

quote:

Probes in space don't directly capture "sound" in the traditional sense because sound waves cannot travel through the vacuum of space; instead, they detect various electromagnetic waves like plasma waves, radio waves, and magnetic field fluctuations, which are then converted into audible sounds through a process called "sonification" once the data reaches Earth, allowing scientists to "hear" the phenomena happening in space.

So, what man-made material is that probe made of? What's the temperature of the Sun's atmosphere? How is all this possible?

I think atmosphere means something different for the sun than earth. They’re still a crap ton distance away.

Couldn’t be bothered to fit the craft with a camera capable of sending back color images I guess

It’s like staring out the window of the truck watching the fence line blur as you listen to the hum of the mud tires.
