Still better than Candycane Lane. Made the mistake of watching that one this year.

It’s got its warts but overall I’ve grown to like it a lot. I never even saw it until I was an adult, it just wasn’t around.

The best thing about it is the supporting cast even down to the unnamed characters are weirdly excellent. A lot of subtle things that are good.
The dad was mostly a nimcompoot. But had his good moments.
The Santa scene probably the best.
It’s a wonderful time capsule.

I’m sorry your parents didn’t love you enough to watch A Christmas Story with you when you were young.

Terrible take is terrible. It was popular WAY before TNT/TBS decided to play it on repeat all Christmas Eve or whenever they play it.

It had a terrible run at the box office and got pulled early. It had terrible viewership numbers when released to HBO which dropped it, Cinemax got it the next year, and then dropped it. It wasn’t until 10 years after its release when ted turner bought the rights and played it nonstop.

Your memory is failing you

Christmas Story is better than Elf, no question. Will Ferrell and Faizon Love are funny but Elf as a movie SUCKS.

Any list that doesn't include Bad Santa isn't just wrong, it's probably a sin.

Exactly

The generation that overvalues nostalgia creates fake nostalgia to cherish

It's so weird

I haven't made it past 15-20 minutes of Elf the two times I've tried to watch it. Complete garbage.

My memory is just fine.

The movie was released in 1983. The 24 hour marathon began in 1997.

Regardless of box office numbers or when it aired on HBO/Cinemax it became undeniably popular or else Turner would not have begun airing it.
