It just illustrates how dysfunctional the relationship is. You'd think one of the highest profile families in the world would have a means of relaying time sensitive communications without going through the US embassy and local sheriff.

They could have raised the British consulate in Los Angeles on a secure link, who would have rousted a junior diplomat out of bed to go over there and tell them to check their damn text messages.
Or they could have just called the private security service, which the UK intel establishment would have had on speed dial from the moment Harry signed the contract. Hell, they probably have operatives inside the company's LA office.

If you're a cop and the U.S. embassy makes a request to do something on behalf of Buckingham palace, you're probably going to say yes.
It's probably the most interesting thing that's came there way in a while. Their other option was probably to run radar on the side of the road.

Family members were all called. Those with no blood ties, like Harry and Meghan, had Sheriffs sent. Those that were too pretentious to allow the Sheriffs in were informed by rent a cop.
