Exactly what I did. Love my 1994 F-150 XLT 4x4 with 351. bought it from an old man on craigslist. Have spent two years getting it to near new condition. Garage kept and drives like a dream with only 101K original miles. Those 351's are going for 300K miles with maintenance. Why spend $60K+ on a plastic and aluminum rolling iphone when you need a truck (bed, towing or 4x4) maybe 10% of the time?

Do we need a truck price thread every single day?
Could you not have just bumped yesterday’s?

I think I read if you have comparable models and account for inflation, truck prices are basically the same over the past 30 years. The options and size increase will run the price up.
ETA:
I do think the market is primed for someone like Mazda to make a true compact truck again.

I have a company replacement ordered. 2019 Silverado and the local dealership fleet sales could only hit $45k.....I got factory fleet at $38k.
Jesus-----When I got my 06 Silverado in Oct. 05, it was $22K out the door. It came with a V-8, auto transmission, split seat cloth interior, carpeting, extended cab, A/C, power windows and side view mirrors, AM/FM/Cassette/CD with 4 speakers, tow package and upgraded wheels.
Sounds like a similar truck today would not be one I'd not pull the trigger on. I've not looked at new vehicles since I got the wife her Camry in 09.

Used trucks aren’t much better. A basic 2015 f-150 will cost you $23,000. What ever happened to a vehicle losing 1/4 of its value as soon as you drive it off the lot?

In October I bought used 2013 F150 FX2 s-crew. 80k Miles Loaded out. Paid 21500
Love the truck, but it makes me sick knowing what it cost me.

Well that’s obviously the hit taken by the purchaser. Depreciation hit is still very real.
My very well equipped half ton with 40k miles got a max trade value of $23.5 and apparently that was a pretty good offer. Think final sale price was $42/$44 back in 2015. It does have an accident on the CarFax, so that hurts even though it was a fender bender and cosmetic only. I was pushing for $25k trade but no dice.

That only applies to trade-in value.

Last year I bought a brand new 2018 Colorado crew cab v6 WT 4x2 with the tow and convenience package for $24k. It has everything I need at a budget I can afford and even has apple carplay. A similarly equipped new Tacoma would never be less than $30k. The Colorado also just won Motortrend midsize truck battle against the Ranger, Ridgeline, and Tacoma with the Tacoma coming in last place

Because features cost money. I am not sure why this concept is so hard for folks.
So you only have to spend 5k more to get triple the power and triple the towing capacity. Makes sense that features cost more

No you have to spend quite a bit more than that. You are comparing a loaded out, to a base 2wd with nothing in it.
As far as power its not triple on everything
308hp 275 lbs vs 445hp 910 lbs
13k lbs tow vs 7k lbs

The prices are so high because they know we will continue to buy them. Debt for 7 years be damned.
If baws would buy used, CEO's would have to start lowering the prices of the new inventory.

i have a '10 with 125k on it. I've changed the oil every 3-5k, not a scratch on it, and it's in perfect condition
Ok cool.

I love talking about trucks. Just don’t click on the thread.

Sticker prices are so high bc I assume there are morons who go in and actually pay sticker, but normal people don’t pay that. A new F150 XLT might sticker for $48k but you can get it for low $30ks without being a master negotiator. When I looked at them in 2017 the salesman, without me even asking or making an offer, came down from $45k to $34k on an XLT.

Well, a record 7 million US auto loans are over 90 days late. That is with low rates and low unemployment. I think you'll see the economy slow and apparently a bunch of repos.
