Sorry

I took it as a suicide career move by the cop because of the previous incidents that have had some of the American public in an uproar.

This is pretty odd. You would think that a university police department would mostly deal with less life threatening situations hence they would want less than lethal tools as well. Granted it is in downtown atlanta.

They have pepper spray, according to the article.

Not sure why they didn't just position some snipers on the rooftops to shoot the weapon out of "their" hand. I mean who's running the show over there, Coach O?

Not at all. After the progressives freaked a few years back over the use of tazers, many smaller police forces were politically pushed into taking tazers away from their officers.

Do the officers not have a right to protect themselves? That is what you are saying that cops should give all criminals due process. I would counter your argument and say he was given lots of due process by the officers. They gave him multiple orders to lay down his weapon.

I'll give you a challenge tuptiger.

I will attack you with a knife and you can use any weapon besides your gun.

I already know I'm going to attack you but you don't know my intentions.

Guess who Is going to win 90% of the time?

The guy with the knife

Oh but let's ask him to wait 5-30 minutes before attacking because we have a guy with rubber bullets coming to shoot you with them.

Takers don't work at 35 feet, I don't care what the internet told you.

Sometimes real world situations get dirty. It's obvious you have never gotten your hands dirty.

Will that satisfy your baseline neurochemical imbalance?

Any weapon besides my gun. First, we're assuming there were no rubber bullets on the scene. Secondly, will I have several other cops with me all of whom also have tasers? Can I use a dog? Can I use my car? Can I bring a fire hose? Any of the above seem like they would defeat a knife without killing the person. I agree with another poster. They could have shot the guy in the leg.

Once again
A gsw to the thigh can cause death.
You can bleed out in a very short period of time.

That would require law enforcement to carry first aid supplies such as quick clot, tourniquet, chest seals and needles etc. whether some officers do or don't, I have no clue.

A human life was taken-whether correct or not is not something to jump for joy over.

Bit of a stretch there!

The question isn't what the guy with the knife should have done. It's the actions the police officer took in response to him not dropping the knife.

Agree he should have dropped the knife. But he should have never had the knife in that situation in the first place. He shouldn't have wasted his time in the march imo. He should have not done a lot of things.

I would love to put you in a uniform and have you patrol the streets for about a week. Lemme guess- you're one of those, "why not just shoot him in the arm" types, aren't you?

Reasonable force for the LEO.

The lethality of knives in close proximity should not be underestimated.

Are you (not a nebulous "you" as in people, I mean YOU) able to reliably use non-lethal force by running over someone?

Death by Cop

Such a coward, and he's fricked with these officers lives and minds, because he was 2 much of a pussy to do it himself.

Now, these cops have to live with this for rest of their lives.
