That's what I like about Trump, he doesn't let the media coerce his actions.

At the same time, I don't think anyone ever thought this virus would spread to the extent its at now

The only country that has even close to a 100M people that is handling this relatively well is Germany. It’s really annoying with how flak the US is getting compared to everyone because of “most total cases”. It just causes more doom and gloom.

LOL wut

You think we'd be trashing the economy and celebrating a 2 trillion dollar spending package if the media would have chilled the frick out?

What would you propose?

Just leave people with no jobs and no money?

If we were in the condition to open everything back up and have no restrictions then we would. Then people would start getting their jobs back.

The fact that we spent 2 trillion dollars tells me this is more serious than anticipated

What makes you think his actions didn't make things much better?
And by that I mean, how do you know we wouldn't be in a much worse spot, which in turn would result in a worse economy?

I would think so. The main driver will be when the vaccine is discovered

In a scenario where we didn't force the cancelation of regular commerce and carried on normally, how many corona deaths do you think it would take to put us in a worse spot than where we are right now?

Predict COVID Numbers in the US

I think it will be bad. Very bad.

My guess for the United States

60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million)
274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719)
12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306)

and I also think things will "get better" by Easter

and by that I mean I think we will have a known treatment plan that helps reduce time on vents or keeps most off vents entirely

that would allow us to relax a bit

I know you’re trying to be cute but you better hope there are not 61m cases of this like there was swine flu

What the frick were we supposed to do? Self quarantine for a minimum of 2 weeks as soon as this thing was in China, then what?

A few things.

Trump did well to block off travel to China when he did, but then he proceeded to downplay the virus for a month. In that time we could've been beefing our healthcare system up, implement basic social distancing (6ft apart, online meetings instead of face-to-face, etc.) and working from home where feasible, warning that this is a serious healthcare issue and that lockdowns could be coming if deemed necessary.

Also, the CDC should have taken the WHO tests until their own tests were shown to be effective so we could implement testing earlier.

ETA

All of this is in hindsight, of course, but I think downplaying the virus early on really hurt.

I absolutely hope and pray the number stays low. I’m doing my part to make it happen.

Do you think there are people hoping the death rate goes up?

A month after Trump put travel restrictions in place, the mayor of New York was encouraging people to go to the theater.

This is the real life version of the kid sticking a twig in his spokes and blaming Trump when he falls off his bike.

The WHO never offered us tests!!!

The Who does not offer offer tests to first world nations. The WHO only offers recipes to first world nations.

Sick and tired of trump being singled out, when zero mayors or govs were doing anything either in the early stages.
