I have not seen a thread about this in a while. Has the commute times gotten any better or worse in the past couple years. My wife is adamant about moving out of BR. I work around Perkins and Essen so if I can tweak my schedule to leave home at 7:00a and leave work around 4:00p about how long can I expect to be in traffic?

I live in the Dutchtown area and I get to Highland Rd. in about 15 to 20 minutes in the morning and it's about the same to get home in the evening.

It's the same

FWIW. I live off Hwy74 and simply commute to BR via HWY30. Most days it takes me 40min to reach the downtown area

I work on Perkins at Bluebonnet and I leave my house at 7:30 to make it for 8. I leave at 6 and get home around 6:30-6:45.

I leave about 6:45am and traffic is light and moves well. I have left at 7am and it was horrendous. Regardless, at 4pm, its gonna be bad.

This also depends on how deep inside Prairieville you plan on living.

Getting there won't take too long, no more than 20-25 minutes depending on where in Prarieville you are. Leaving could be a b&%$h because that's shift change at the hospital. You're going to want to leave no later than 3:45. Doing so will get you home at least 30 minutes earlier.

the SO works in town center area and takes her about 30 min to get there from the house which 42 and airline. she leaves the house @ 8.

Getting home takes a little longer. Leaves work @ 5 and gets home @ 5:35 - 5:40ish.

I work from home majority of the time so don't have to worry about that crap.

My kids are at Kindercare on Picardy so I know what you are talking about. Its strange that sometimes that area is a parking lot and other times its pretty clear even at 4:30.

I live off 16 in French settlement. The quickest way I've found to get downtown in the am is to go up 16 to Denham, then Choctaw to downtown. You go a bit out of the way, but it's steady movement with little traffic. frick sitting on 42 to get to airline.

Edit: drive a stick shift so stop and go traffic is my enemy. I'll drive 10 miles out of the way if it doesn't have traffic

The only thing I'm getting out of this thread is to never, ever, move to BR or the immediate surrounding areas.

I commute in from Metairie to Essen Lane 4 days a week.

I usually leave Metairie around 8am and hit Prarieville around 8:45. Most days it's fine and no real traffic into Baton Rouge. When there is bad traffic, it's usually because of a wreck or backup at the Prarieville entrance or exit. If you're getting on at that exit it shouldn't be too bad even on a bad day. I don't know about getting from the subdivisions to that point.

Going home generally sucks no matter what. It takes me an hour to get to work in the morning on a normal day. Going home takes about an hour and 15 to 20 minutes. That 15 to 20 minutes is used up in traffic up to Prarieville. I leave at 5:30 most days, but find little difference an hour or so before or after that. Traffic is usually stop and go from around Siegen to just past Highland. Some days it's better and some days it's Bluebonnet to Prarieville. Expect at least 15 minutes more going home with some days being 30 minutes more.

I've noticed Wednesdays are the worst. It's probably because it's the one night I get the house to myself for a few hours so it makes sense it's the day it takes longer to get home. Look what today is!

I live down highway 42. If 42 didn't suck the drive would be a breeze. Until they widen the road I come in to work at 6 and leave around 3:30 to lighten the drive

If you leave after 6:45am precisely? Yes its worse. And its about to get way worse due to new neighborhoods and the I10 expansion.

Can you move the 7 up a bit? Seriously. The difference between 645 and 7 is huge.

After work, without wrecks, you should be ok anytime before 4:30. Or really 5. I leave at 430 sometimes from Acadian and its not bad getting back to Dutchtown.
