The purpose of this, along with immigration, is to maintain a low cost group of workers.

I must say that your response to me with the panties and vagina thing made me laugh. But the mayor has stated he believes the statues are the problem and still won't address the real reasons for families moving away from the decay.
ETA: Being defensive about the problem has always been the response to criticism from a certain group. Never will own it.

You think the way to fix the problem is by just giving them money. For the most part, poor people are poor because of bad choices and you just want to write them a check for thousands to 'better themselves'.
The money would be wasted immediately by the majority of them

Hell no I completely expect them to waste it. The problem gets fixed a generation down the road since the poors who get sterilized can't pop out 10 kids from 5 different baby daddies

My SO is a 4th generation New Orleanian who currently lives on the Northshore. She is moderately liberal. Her long term plan has always been to return to New Orleans, but the statue situation has made her reconsider that. She does not think the city has a place for, or wants people like her any more.

She went to Franklin for HS, LSU for undergrad, Columbia for grad school. Her parents both graduated from Tulane. Not sure where they went to HS.
She was also involved in historic preservation when she lived in the city and this whole thing has been very disturbing to her.
