The only racism comes from very simple minded folks who have no desire to be open minded to all races. Anyone with an open mind can see past racism and treat everyone as humans. It’s quite simple until people put chips on their shoulder and have an agenda. Those agendas have spanned decades as we are continuing to witness.

Probably how a lot of people are. And the black population may average more crime and lower test scores than the average white population because a lot of them are poor, and they’ve been poor for decades because of racism dating back to reconstruction. But if you bring something like that up here TD will just say we live in a color blind society. Then turn around and criticize culcha in the next thread. But I’m ranting now.

I was never close friends with a black person growing up. Wasn’t because I wanted to I was just the introvert. Eventually I did meet one black guy at work who was awesome. Full of life and loved everybody. That’s when it dawned on me.... we’re all so damn predisposed to be being awkward or tough guys when it came to race and we just need to chill the frick out and be cool.

Study the % of each race (U.S. census) vs the crime statistics with emphasis on the big 3, rape, robbery & murder (F.B.I. statistics) and then get back to me on this.

Racism in the South is group based - we are more likely to have opinions about a race as a whole, but also more likely to happily accept an "exception". I think this proves true for both whites and blacks.
In more homogeneous areas, there is the moral impulse to express a lack of racism, which is pretty easy when you're around nothing but other crackers.

Ri was in first grade when we integrated. We had relatively few racial issues throughout my k-12 years.

I’m well aware of what the statistics. Its people that look at statistics to write those people off with no chances. It’s those people that look at those same same statistics and say “frick it” I have no chance because the statistics say so. Rinse and repeat for decades and the decay gets more violent and aggressive.

I finished HS in Atlanta, and this took place during the Summer between my Jr and Sr year at a basketball camp at UT Chattanooga.
We had about 6-7 black dudes on the team that I was pretty close with and a few of them were pretty big dudes (two played in the NFL). So, one night, I join that group on a trip to Dairy Queen.
We're walking along...can see the DQ about two blocks away...and then the lights go out. shite. Nothing sideways about it - it was just closing time. Dejected, we start walking back towards out dorms on campus.
We pass a frat house when we clearly hear the N-bomb dropped. I looked at my friends, they looked at me, and one of the guys that went on to the NFL said..."Rummy, stay here". "frick that", I said...I'm coming with y'all.
So we walk across the street to the house and their were maybe 5-6 guys standing on the porch. My NFL buddy asks, "Did you yell something"? Frat bro says, "yes". NFL friend says, "Did you yell that towards us"? Frat bro gulps and says, "no". NFL buddy says, "That's all I needed to know".
I was impressed and proud of my friend to not take a situation somewhere it did not need to go, while making the other guys look like pussies for not owning their shite.
It was an eye opening experience for me to see first hand what those guys had/have to go through, and I was rewarded with a new found respect from my buddies for sticking with them and standing next to them.

Generally, proximity and diversity leads to more overt racism (or other forms of prejudice - it could be religious). We are hard-wired to be suspicious of outgroups, and the more proximate they are, the stronger that bunker down mentality becomes, I think. Not always true but it's a pretty decent assumption for widespread behavior.
