Oh, sages of the OT. Tell me all the horrible things I'll experience pursuing that career path.

Those who can, do; those who can't, teach

Hi!
Was a teacher for six years!
Might have to go back into it next year!
Might kill myself before then!
Good luck!

I actually did this exact thing. Worked at the 2 BR tv stations that matter then moved to Houston and worked there for a year. Now I'm a HS math teacher. In teaching the money is better, the hours are better, and when I go home I don't have to feel guilty if I turn my phone off or I'm not looking for story ideas. The grading suck, but I'm working about an equal amount on a given day with better pay and a better lifestyle.
ETA: I don't know why you're getting out, but for me it was because I was doing a 6 week stint as an overnight/weekend overnight producer. After 8 months and I was still on that shift with no sign of getting out of it and the dude sitting next to me doing the same job as me had been doing this for 30 years I decided it wasn't the type of life I wanted to live.

First of all, there is no such thing as journalism in America anymore.
And teaching, are we talking elementary, middle, high school or professor. By far being a professor would be the easiest of those.

I was a teacher in 3 parishes.
Good luck and make sure it's truly what you want.
Kids are great, even the bad ones. It's the parents and administration you need to choose.
Make sure the admin are males. Trust me. Make sure the area is on par with your morals and values.
My first job in plaquemines parish was the shite. Catholics getting drunk as all hell and now worries. The next was a bunch of snake charmers who didn't know what alcohol was and it sucked.

Underpaid, underfunded, parents who don't give two shits what their kids learn or how they behave. If you want to be a teacher, that's admirable. We need them. But good luck dealing with the bullshite.

Money and hours are easy answers. But it's truly a soulless and thankless industry.

Ah yes, so much liberal bias when we're covering a city council meeting

If you only plan to teach, then the hours are kush. If you coach or want to be an over achieving prick then they'll suck. Teach the subject and roll with the bell.

Yea, I guess just about every job is soulless and thankless.
