Not be a drag, because I get what you're saying, but air will still be a friction

I'm hoping for cheap energy transmission that makes arguments over global warming a thing of the past.

A shite ton of things. Portable MRI machines (12× more detailed imagery), frictionless travel, cheaper quantum computers, exponentially faster phones, computers, AI, medical treatments, medical research, NUCLEAR FUSION, etc.
It would be a revolution.

If 95% were attainable and practical would not that alone be huge?
This.
Simply increasing energy efficiency significantly would be a massive change right there even if it doesn’t break the laws of thermodynamics.

You could run the trains through vacuum tubes. Nobody would want to look out the window going 500mph at ground level anyway.

It could be the lynchpin towards finally making flying vehicles feasible and maglev trains more cost effective. It would make quantum computing feasible on a more industrial scale. Computing in general would likely change on the order of several magnitudes. Batteries could be made that would last way longer than modern batteries. Power could become cheaper because of lossless transmission through the grid. Nuclear reactors could be redesigned to not require exotic cooling for the superconductors currently used in them. It really would be revolutionary.

Someone on Bloomberg said if this pans out you won't recognize the world in 10 years.

Pretty sure that a number of people are trying to do that regardless.
Difference is that this could be in a positive way.

5. Superconductors might be the best batteries out there. Simply inject a current and keep it in the coil until you need it. Previously, too costly to maintain. Now, totally feasible.
Wonder if they could harness the energy in a bolt of lightning with that? Imagine being able to store the electrical power of a lightning bolt.

As long as they're sealed really well, that shits on my issue pretty quick

Benny Franklin up in here.
That piqued my curiosity. If the above the fold Google return is correct a cloud to ground strike contains an average of 1 billion joules which sounds like and is a lot of energy for something almost instantaneous. However, if my maths are correct it is "only" about 280kWh, so cool but not commercially viable anywhere except maybe the mouth of the Catatumbo River.

Of course - did not intend to downplay the significance at all - checking my understanding of physical laws more than anything else

Given the path of our civilization we are desperate for a technological shake-up provided it doesn't get controlled by the current elite attempt to put us in pods and make us eat bugs.
