Wrong.. it's was the Scots as said before and quick research confirms that.

I corrected myself. I meant what we consider fried chicken.

Battered and seasoned

And apparently the East Asians were doing it in the 1st century

...and claiming african americans brought fried chicken to the US is still categorically false.

considering it was the Asians that domesticated the chicken, it would seem logical that they would be the first to toss the meat in hot oil

Categorically? how is it categorically false?

You are calling it false in a very narrow sense.

What all americans consider fried chicken, was an invention of West Africans.

That is absolutely true.

That's not correct. West African cuisine fried chickens before colonialism, as chickens were one of the few domesticated animals who were not affected by the Tsetse fly. We know that the chicken was pre-colonial because many West African traditional myths involve chickens, with the traditional methods of preparation involving frying them in oil, or serving it with fish in a stew. The Akan people have stories dating to the 11th century involving offering chickens to their deities, which hopefully dispels the notion that chickens were part of the exchange during colonization.

just for clarity, I'm not sure who has made that argument in this thread

the argument seems to be who was the first to fry chicken

Slaves were generally given the parts of animals the slaveowners didn't want.

Freed blacks in the south were super poor, and often had to make do with less than ideal food.

Fried chicken is good, especially bone-in.

Because battered fried chicken, with seasonings, was being eaten in the northern US prior to the introduction of the dish to the south and the slave trade.

Both arguments have been made by different people.

The first argument I responded with the Roman recipe from Apicius, and Roaad countered that it wasn't fried chicken as we know it in the US, that being battered and seasoned, claiming that came from West Africa with the slaves.
