It is a strange route even though it is correct.

I’m from Ohio and can vouch for our shittiness.

Hats off if y’all have us beat. Well done, Urania.

he intersection of 84 and 165 used to be known locally as "murder crossroads" for all the accidents

I thought they recently put a Red Light or flashing CAUTION light at that intersection

anyone know for sure ? it's definitely dangerous as I travelled those roads 1-2x's a month from 1995 to 2015

google maps with last image from March 2023, no lights

Urania's median annual income is only $12,358 and the poverty rate is 40.4%

60% are above poverty level and income is 12,358? There has to be a ton of people with basically no income at all

My town barely beat that by a few hundred.

A black trailer park, a few perpetually unemployed rednecks, and a low population kills it.

tourism

In Urania?

I would imagine that 90% of the tourism dollars come from people stopping to get a pic in front of the Urania city limits sign ... Then getting gas and a coke

My town has 76% above and still barely beat them with 12840.

About 150 people screw it all up.

If it’s poorer than the delta town of Jonestown, MS… I would be blown away. I drove through there once taking a shortcut. I’ll not do it again.

Jonestown

quote:

The median income for a household in the town was $17,250 (in 1999 dollars), and the median income for a family was $18,958. Males had a median income of $16,146 versus $19,125 for females. The per capita income for the town was $8,258. About 49.6% of families and 52.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 57.7% of those under age 18 and 56.3% of those age 65 or over.

Lot of other dead delta towns are similar.

West Virginia makes most of Ohio look like Beverly Hills.

Tullos-Urania is a big area for oil and gas, at least with regard to the number of wells. That may be in play here.

Oh yeah SE Ohio is definitely poor. And it's Appalachia so it all makes sense.

That part of Ohio is beautiful.
