The first officer arrived around 5:20 p.m. along with EMS and fire department personnel, and they were unable to locate the female. The caller contacted the officer and was able to direct emergency personnel to the location where this woman was last seen. As the officer began to approach what appeared to be a woman lying in the grass, he noticed there was also an unrestrained dog. This location was near a fence line containing a heavily wooded area behind a commercial business that includes a sidewalk area. As the officer called out to the woman repeatedly concerning her welfare, the dog began to run towards the officer while barking. The officer retreated backwards from the running dog while drawing his duty firearm. The officer discharged his firearm multiple times towards the dog. After the shots were fired, the woman yelled out and it was apparent she was injured.

The woman was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. Preliminary information leads investigators to believe the woman was struck by gunfire from the officer. The officer is assigned to the North District as a patrol officer.

The incident was captured by body-worn camera which will be included in the investigation. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once next of kin have been identified. This is an ongoing investigation to determine what happened.

The whole damn thing is on body cam footage yet it's still an ongoing investigation? Give me a fricking break.

What in the frick is wrong with police officers to be shooting so many dogs? I’m a huge conservative, hugely pro-military, but I pretty much jumped off the “back the blue” train because of shite like this. I get that it sucks to be bitten by a dog, but if you’re a fully grown man and can’t handle a dog in hand to hand combat while you’re wearing long sleeves, pants, and carrying a baton then you shouldn’t be a police officer. Just fricking weird, I can’t imagine being able to kill a dog because it’s running toward me.

You'd be singing a different tune if a healthy German Shepherd was charging at you

To be completely fair to the cop if that woman was laying on the ground not moving and was in need of life saving care, it would be awfully hard to do with a dog chewing on your face.

Not advocating or condoning this one way or the other but if the video shows a woman in distress then that dog became an extreme liability.

Take it from someone who’s been attacked by a German Shepard who’s stupid owner didn’t have on a leash while walking it: I really wished I had a fricking gun when that motherfricker latched onto my knee trying to take me to the ground.... I would’ve emptied a mag into that fricker.

Charging chihuahua/ don’t shoot

Charging Shepard or pitbull/ yeah, kill it

Yep. I understand that officer's need to defend himself, but you still have to deploy your weapon correctly.

Why would an officer fight a pit bull? It’s not tough, it’s just stupid and unnecessary.

Are police officers such big pussies who can't use pepper spray to subdue a dog? MUST they draw and fire their weapons? The dog most likely belonged to the woman and was protecting her.

They have to do an autopsy to determine the cause of death, officially.

I've noticed that this message board has become way more skeptical of police. It has been very interesting to see the shift in these threads.

1. A lot of departments got rid of pepper spray in favor of Tasers.

2. Pepper spray (and Tasers) don’t work on dogs most of the time. Pepper spray actually doesn’t work on dogs but sometimes they run off just from being surprised by the spray itself. Not the pepper part but the liquid. Just like most dogs hate being sprayed with a hose.

If they run off, it worked

Sucks to have poor aim... baw in the story definitely would've missed with his taser shooting it. I don't think many carry collapsible batons/asps, but that would be my choice. Fully automatic and rarely runs out of ammo.
