Seems like those plastic semi-auto jobs they like to carry now aren't very accurate. I wish they'd go back to revolvers, preferably in a lower-recoil caliber like .38 Special or even .22 Magnum. I doubt most of those guys could hit a stop sign at 15' with those .40s and 9mms they carry.

What in the frick is wrong with police officers to be shooting so many dogs? I’m a huge conservative, hugely pro-military, but I pretty much jumped off the “back the blue” train because of shite like this. I get that it sucks to be bitten by a dog, but if you’re a fully grown man and can’t handle a dog in hand to hand combat while you’re wearing long sleeves, pants, and carrying a baton then you shouldn’t be a police officer. Just fricking weird, I can’t imagine being able to kill a dog because it’s running toward me.

A full size angry dog is nothing you want a part of.

I've noticed in the last few years they draw their guns and fire way to quickly. I had a Florida State Trooper draw his weapon on me during a routine traffic stop outside of Destin because I got out of my car before I was told to do so.

Depends on the dog. If it’s just a regular mug? Yeah, just kick the shite out of it. Now if it’s something like a German Shepherd, Rottweiler, pit bull, or even a full grown lab mix, then you’re going to have problems going hand to hand.

They have to do an autopsy to determine the cause of death, officially.

Sure, but if it was a good shoot, it doesn't matter, and if it's a bad shoot, then reckless discharge of a weapon is a no brainer, for starters.

Any civilian would be cleared or arrested by now.

If it’s a bad shoot the most he’s getting is negligent homicide if it turns out he did in fact kill her. He’s not getting reckless discharge of a weapon.

Why were you getting out of the car for a routine traffic stop?

Delivering newspapers as a kid we were charged by every type dog you can think of, we either outran them on our bikes or beat them off with the piece of pipe every delivery kid carried for that purpose. Mailmen in those days delivered mail house to house on foot and were also able to somehow deal with dogs without shooting them.

Not that he had one, but a fire extinguisher is amazing at dog deterrence.

True, but OC spray and a baton are very affective.

Shooting a pistol accurately is difficult, under duress is very difficult. As far as .38s,I knew a cop back in the day that shot bad guy 5 times with .38 and then had to run him down and club him into submission with his stick.Another time when I worked in ICU I took care of guy whose wife shot him 11 times with a .38,he had 14 holes in him.11 entrance wounds and 3 exits. He survived quite well and went home.
.38s don’t cut it with the weapons criminals carry these days.

It’s ok, here, to shoot a black man but not a dog.

I’m not saying that there aren’t, but I certainly don’t need to shoot a 60 pound lab because I’m scared of getting bit. There are very, very few dogs in the general dog populous that can actually hurt a fit, fully grown man, and there are a lot of dogs getting shot. Way too many people in this thread have responded to me with extreme examples of 120 pound German Shepards when those aren’t the dogs getting shot primarily

What type of dog? A small little thing or traditionally friendly Goldie this is horrible. A German Sheppard or Pit, meh tough call.

Also it sounds like he didn't know if the dog attacked the woman?
