TECU has worked the best for me. It is an oil that you rub in and rinse. It lifts the poison Ivy oil out of your skin

I second this. I have 3 acres and have a good bit of weed eating to do (and roundup after) and it’s come to the point where I just wear boots, jeans, long sleeve shirt and gloves so I don’t get that shite.

Poison oak is 3 leaves too, just stay away from the 3 leaf plants.

Just rub burnt motor oil on it and it’ll go away overnight

Sounds crazy but meat tenterizer works great. Started using it in salt water for jellyfish stings which is way worse than poison ivy. Gotta neutralize the oil that gets in your skin. Meat tenderizer penetrates and does that.

Anytime you are doing said activities, as soon as you can, take a shower and use Dawn dishwashing liquid to wash off. This is MUCH better that Tecnu and other over priced products. It is simply exposure to the oil from the plant. And, there is nothing better than Dawn to get that stuff off of you. Use a wash rag, too, Scrub good.

Wear a mask when mowing / weed eating if your symptoms flair up after.

Thing is, the oils literally interlock with your skin tissue after long enough, and the only way to really calm it down after that is steroids.

Edit: I also use Dawn dish liquid as soon as possible me after exposure, it works.

Look at the plants nearby. More often than not something growing within a few feet of poison ivy or poison oak will be an antidote. Jewelweed, mullein, and plantain spring to mind right away.

To get it off your skin, once you come in contact, rub olive oil on your skin. Then, wash with Dawn dish soap. The oil from the plant that causes the reaction will bind with olive oil. Dawn will get rid of it all

I am horribly allergic. Go get the shots. Bathe with Dawn. Wash everything you can that you came in contact with, also in Dawn. Wash your sheets every day in Dawn.
Do not waste time with anything over the counter. Stuff is unphased by OTC products.
I always always have to get at least a 2nd round of shots, and sometimes a 3rd with heavier doses than normally prescribed.
Poison Sumac is exponentially worse that poison ivy and what I have the blessing of having in my flower beds. I’m love to dispose of all of it and have at least 18 inches bulldozed up and carted off to the woods.

Edited to add that I have started just throwing away all clothing I wore for that type of yard work. I can’t throw away my boots but I have new gloves every time to put that particular pair of boots on. Throw my gloves away also.
