Plumbers of the OT: guest bathroom reeks of ammonia…

I thought I had a dead rodent in the attic. I live near the water, rats are common, and with my pest control it’s not rare for that to be the issue. This has persisted for a couple of weeks now, and the smell hasn’t really changed. It’s VERY strong in the guest bathroom. I’m single, so I hardly ever go in there, but when you walk in the house now you get a whiff.
Everything appears to be draining and flushing fine in there. Like I said, it’s hardly ever used.
Yes, I know I’m going to die and probably have ammonia AIDS. But for real…this can’t be good. Any ideas?

Maybe live rodents nesting in the walls.

Turn on faucets and outlets and flood the pipes. Might be caught in a p-trap.

I'm no plumber but sounds like a dried up p trap. Especially if you never go in there

Dried up faucet p-trap

Is your wax ring on the toilet not sealing?

Sink genie ptrap worked for me. Less frequently used guest bathroom

Run water through the bathtub p trap.

So essentially…let the water run in the tub for a bit?

Sounds like you got pee in your trap baw

I liked the wax ring or cat/rodent pissing somewhere.

May have a blocked vent, causing the toilet to suck the water out of the the traps for the tub/shower and lav.

Guests pissing in your shower curtain.

About ten years ago I worked at a place with the problem. Had a dark mark on one of the ceiling tiles by the bay door in the back. We always thought it was rain. One day the tile collapsed and a huge rat nest fell through. The smell and that spot was their piss and shite.

Mix 1 part water to 1 part bleach and pour a cup or 2 in all of your drains, floor drain too if you have one. Sometimes when plumbing drains are not used often enough they will dry out and allow septic fumes to come out of the drains.

I’d promptly burn the house down

Ran water through both sink faucets and bathtub for about 5 minutes. I guess it’ll take a while for the existing smell to dissipate. No bleach on hand, so I’ll get that going tomorrow.
