Elon Musk is changing Twitter policies to fit his conception of how it should operate. Musk's actions are generally applauded and supported by the majority of posters on the PT board.

TD's Owner enacted a policy that directs political discussion to the board created and designated for that purpose. He owns this site, a private business entity, and that is his prerogative.

PT poster's objections have centered on 1st Amendment arguments, and generally the notion that OT board political discourse is being unjustly infringed.

Assuming one's reasoning skills are consistent, I'm perplexed by the uproar, expressed by many, that banning obviously political topics on the OT is in some nefarious way an effort to suppress free speech political discussion.

There is no difference in what Musk is implementing, or what Chicken has requested be honored. They are both changing their site's policies, not agreed by all, but entirely within their rights as owners and chief executives.

I do agree that the expansion of the other boards have killed the OT

but that doesn't mean it should just be the PT Lite either

Not to mention… there’s a political talk board

ETA- the young people living at home thread is a good example of what fits in on the OT, that isn’t completely silly, horny, etc

Nobody is arguing what you’re claiming about free speech suppression, in the way you frame it. It’s an outright lie

It’s the leftists that come in here wanting more moderation of the poliboard itself so they can ban the conservatives they don’t agree with that is the issue. Multiple people in this thread have already stated it.

I have lurked TDs almost from the beginning and only came here from Reddit when shite got stupid over there and they took a hard left turn. This board was unique but censorship is slippery slope. JFK would be considered a radical right fascists by todays standards.

I get it though, as most GenXers are being phased out - I’m guessing the average demographic of the OT are progressive millennials and this comes as zero surprise. This website is an entertainment business for Chicken and I’ll conclude this post with a quote from Landon Collins, “it’s a bidness decision.”

I won’t speak for Chicken, but the reason (IMHO) is that almost all political threads on TD (regardless of the board) are toxic waste and corrode the boards they reside on.

Nobody really “actively avoids” any of the other boards but plenty of people avoid PT like the plague. Like if you start a thread and it gets moved to PT, the average OP is likely done with it at that point.

If so, congratulations on being completely wrong. If I've ever been on poliboard, it's been years. Not my ccup of tea. No, I just recognize that the left has gone insane, the goal posts have shifted so far under people's feet and yet they think they're still standing in the same place they were years ago (overton window), and the establishment media and political machine covers for the radicalized collectivist cultural forces. It's been going on at least as far back as 2014 when I first noticed it. It really kicked into the mainstream in about 2016-2017.

But no, if you want to keep pretending that cultural norms are maintaining and that there aren't double standards depending on whom you vote for, then keep your head buried in the sand by circle jerking in your echo chamber. It's not you in the outside world looking in at me. It's you in your bubble looking at the outside world trying to associate me with some other bubble because I'm not in your bubble. I'm no republican. Never been on fourchan, and I have to remind some folks that the vax did help save some grandmas. I also have to remind people that otherwise, everything about it has been a lie, including the lies about CRT, lies about how safe it is to transition children, the 2016 election deniers, and on and on.

Remember: it's not whether an election was stolen, whether a vaccine works, whether this or that policy might work better. It's about the lies surrounding those issues to protect, not the substantive issues themselves, but the image of the people who push those positions. And when someone points out that shite ain't on the hunky dory up and up, tools like you come in to cry about conspiracy theories while you whine about your own conspiracy theories.
