re: Plaquemine: Shelter in place after chlorine spill in Dow chemical plant **SIP LIFTED**

I would expect the release to be stopped fairly quickly. Chlorine is highly reactive, it’s not going to linger once the source is stopped. Industrial fire fighters are very well trained and usually manage these things pretty quickly. Anyone that’s ever worked in a plant is looking at these pictures hoping no one was hurt and they control it quickly.

How do you all know this? I know many of you will believe just about anything people tell you, but for someone to believe this is a bit concerning.

Kinda like bleach.
Super concentrated bleach.
I've spent years in multiple chlorine units. Most of my career.
Green gas is no fun outside the pipe.
If you ever get chlorinated drink a coke.
Then lay on your stomach slightly inverted with your head lower than your feet and get all that shite out the bottom of your lungs before you get chlorine pneumonia

As opposed to a regular Tuesday? You’re good.

Have you ever been to a swimming pool?
But to be fair. What gives chlorine a strong smell is chloramine, which is formed when bodily fluids and other shite people might pour in the pool get in the chlorine.
But isn't there different types of chlorine for pools (mixed with other substances)?

No it isn't.
It'll get hydrolyzed to HCl and burn your throat.
Certainly not fun. But, not cancerous.
Read the sds.

Put some jack in it, pretend you’re in France in 1917 and enjoy your final moments.

My uncle is an operator at Olin and tried to get me a job there a few years ago. Hopefully he’s alright. My aunt would have sent out a mass text message by now informing the situation so maybe he was off tonight.

STFU Chris. Riding past a plant on the short bus doesn’t qualify as plant experience
