I’m pretty sure that’s SCBA territory judging by the picture.
Yep. Hopefully the people working the unit had some escape packs on their person

Yep. Heavier than air. When I worked in a chlorine plant back in the day they said you should walk slowly through a vapor cloud if you got caught in one so you didn’t stir it up. I was fairly certain I would not have managed that.

I was at Borden/BCP for my only experience. A rouge cloud was out playing and I didn't know about it until I made it in the building and everyone was watching me walk past it.

Dumb question of the night…. How do y’all know from looking at the picture how much of that is chlorine vs smoke from the fire?
Posted on 4/18/22 at 9:51 pm to lostinbr

I agree but thats an incredible amount. One of my good friends dad is a high level Chem E with Dow, he says that this aint a joke
Based purely on the picture posted in this thread, that’s a catastrophic release. Hopefully that’s what it looked like AFTER the fire burned for a while and people had a chance to GTFO. Otherwise I think we will be hearing about fatalities in the morning, sadly.
Somewhat luckily, Olin is near the south side of the plant and the wind seems to be blowing south. Most of the stuff downwind of Olin right now is admin/engineering type buildings that are probably mostly empty at night. This looks like it could have caused major loss of life during the daytime (without even considering the surrounding area).
I hope I’m exaggerating, but I fear I am not.

They gonna open the damn roads soon? I'm stuck at the Walmart parking lot in Plaquemine.

Now, now, you can wear a mask! If you choose to.

Will this affect my flight to Punta Cana?
