That’s a big nope from me.

Like you have any control over the weather where you are landing. It is what it is.

I bet this big bastard is a handful during heavy crosswinds.

That’s just fricking stupid and dangerous. And I’m an airplane pilot.
You divert and go somewhere with a runway aligned better with the winds. There’s no need to risk damaging an aircraft and getting a violation on your record to land in shite like that.

Airplanes divert daily because of weather conditions.

i've flown into O'hare before from the west and coming in been able to look out my window and look down the runway, then have the plane straighten out right at touchdown.
pilots are trained to handle it - but the ones int he video are insane.

this. Same thing happened flying into fort Lauderdale last year. Pilot said "we're starting our final descent. Once we get below these clouds, the wind is about 40 knots. Keep your seatbelts on" no lie we were at about a 45 degree angle all the way down and at the last millisecond, the pilot did something, lined us out, hit the runway, and that's all she wrote. it was bad A

quote:you fly with the jet in a crab down till about the time you're ready to flare and then use rudder to align, I say it's not that that big of a deal but I've been doing it a long time, about 30,000 hours worth, it is a big deal...if you frick it up
the pilot did something,
ETA: each airplane has a max crosswind limit, 60 knots probably exceeds all airliners, except in an emergency maybe

Some pilots there do it a little better than others on the video. I've seen these type of videos for a while and can watch one after another. I only experienced a landing like this once and it was in a Cessna 185. Aligned askew to the runway and the pilot crabbed in and aligned at the last second. He was a crusty old dude. It was on one of my oilfield flights between Venice and Lafayette. Yeah it was a float plane. Winds were 25 mph from the south at takeoff on the water. At landing about 30 mph out of the northwest. We flew through the front and that was the most turbulent flight I've ever been on. The pilot just held the strut to the window and flew through it. He warned me it was going to be rough.

I could listen to pilot insider info/stories all day. Always appreciated your candor with the board.

Worst crosswind landing I had was on an AA CLT-MSY flight right before a thunderstorm hit. Landed on 29 with the winds out of the north, thought we were going down over Kenner. Made me appreciate pilot skill that much more

Apparently the weather was that way all around the area. Planes that diverted has to go to London - 500 km away.

My company’s crosswind component is:
27kts. for a dry runway
22kts. for a wet runway
15kts for a contaminated (snowy) runway

Yep ... not to mention that it is against pretty much every manufacturer's recommendations.
Seems like someone would be fired.
I would have never tried it back in the day and my pilot buddy and I just exchanged texts over the video and agreed, you don't risk landing in something like that.
