It's rained 746 days in a row but the "canal" is dry.

Imagine going through the emergency procedure:

1) Pitch for best glide speed - check
2) Select landing site - Plank Road

Lack of airspeed and altitude, not a good place to be with an engine failure.

Glad it turned out how it did, for the people that is.

Looks like a solid job by the pilot considering the circumstances. It’s easier to land a plane with no engine when you’re 20,000 feet in the air and have time to think and formulate a plan but when you’re on approach you have no altitude to trade for airspeed, no time and no options. You pick the safest place to land, preferably an airstrip but that’s not always a choice you have. They landed and everyone was alive, that’s a win regardless of the condition of the plane.

Do we have a video of the crash?

Makes for a new “In!” gif.

The plane is in a canal in Baton Rouge near the Coca-Cola plant off of Plank Rd.

so they basically just flew across the street from the airport?

Glad t hear it was able to land safely on the sofas and tires clogging up and blocking all the drainage.
This is exactly why the city doesn't keep these clear of debris.

By time you mean about an hour or so? We're about to go through another week of rain everyday.
