I've been in aviation for 20 years or so, and I'll say this:
No 20 year old (male or female) has any business in the Capatin's seat of any aircraft hauling passengers.
No 20 year old (male or female) has any business in the Capatin's seat of any aircraft hauling passengers.

Well good thing this doesn’t apply to this particular crash. But thanks for the opinion.

Honest question for the aviation guys on here. Is there anything that can be done once a plane is in a nosedive? Full flaps, reverse engine thrust, deploy gear? Also why don’t all planes have parachutes like the cirrus vision jet and sr-22

I assume the 55 year old captain was flying the plane.
I also assume the 20 year old copilot had responsibilities like monitoring radar and assisting the PIC in navigating around treacherous weather conditions.
Is your position that the co-pilot is a glorified passenger?
Is your position that the Captain is a glorified helmsman?

In this particular case. No. Once they lost the critical control surface (horizontal stabilizer) deploying drag would’ve done nothing to stop the dive. Would’ve delayed the impact by maybe fractions of a second at best.

Simply: it’s too much weight.
Commuter jet aircraft are heavy. Packing the amount of parachute to successfully float a fully-loaded passenger jet wouldn’t be possible. You’d have to sacrifice fuel (distance) or passengers for that weight, which would limit profit for the company.

You seem to be really emotionally invested in this, so I am not going to engage with you beyond this post, for the sake of not derailing the thread any further. That said - I have no idea why the plane crashed. I can talk pure conjecture, but I will wait for the NTSB.
Human factors are always a factor. The age and experience of the aircrew is important whether you want it to be or not. The decisions made on the ground before the flight influence the decisions made in the sky. That rule goes for any flight - not just this one.

Far too many variables for that to have a simple answer

Reportedly 15 people aboard

They won't be anything left with the possible exception of some of the compressor/turbine discs of the engines and possibly a couple pieces of the landing gear. But I wouldn't bet on that.
I guess all those nutcases that say it wasn't an airplane that hit the Pentagon on 9/11 can now politely STFU.
So sad that none of the remaining families will have anything to actually bury from this. I can't imagine...

You seem way more emotional than Dusty

In fairness, neither of them are as emotionally invested as that Semenly guy.

i'd be willing to bet there are a lot of posters in this thread that are "in aviation" in the same sense that a janitor at a hospital is "in healthcare"

I have several hundred hours operating multiple aircraft types across multiple systems and scenarios in Ace Combat

Hey man - I was behind on my news - I totally missed the 55 year old being in the Captain's seat. Lots of disinfo out there. I normally do a better job of sifting through the BS.
