Is that what happened with the learjet55 over Philadelphia? I don't remember the cause of that

quote:

According to the docket, investigators noted several areas of inquiry but did not identify a probable cause. Factors examined included:

The aircraft's pitch trim setting, which was found in the wreckage at 3.97 degrees versus the expected 5.5 degrees for takeoff, requiring increased control force.[30]

Pilot workload and experience, with records showing the crew had flown multi-leg trips in the four days preceding the accident and had not previously operated into or out of Northeast Philadelphia Airport.[30]

The cockpit voice recorder, which had been reported as inoperative in March 2025, was later repaired but contained audio from a prior flight only.[30]

You mean like creating a pointless thread pretending to not know who Sydney Sweeney is?

There is a whole lot of “I have no idea what I’m talking about, but I’m gonna say it loud” itt. No one knows yet who was flying. No one knows yet what links were in the accident chain. However, it is “likely” the plane flew into convective weather and likely broke apart. The most likely is the horizontal stabilizer. That is a weak point on that airframe and losing it could cause the flight attitude described. Everyone will know in due time.

The plane appeared to have wings just before the crash, but appeared to be missing the horizontal stabilizer.

Seems like the prevailing theory is ice-related failure of the horizontal tail stabilizer leading to a tail stall causing a sharp dive, and basically a giant frozen missile diving towards the earth at 600 MPH with no way to correct it.

The video the guy poster earlier also said these pilots would likely have never practiced high speed, high altitude stalls, even in a simulator, and that's assuming the equipment was functional to do it. Why don't they practice it? Because the planes aren't really capable of recovering from it.

Not an Aviator but I did prefly and help launch the VS 30 S -3 viking that took the longest ever carrier flight with a tango as it's cargo and I witnessed devil 101 splash a jet.... but I never worked in a plant except at Tenneco Chalmette when I was in HS as a surveyor.

The descent rate is astounding to me.

32,640 feet per minute is the maximum descent rate that the standard ADS-B field can encode. The actual descent rate may have exceeded that.

Im in Aerospace, just my perspective.. about todays plane crash in Florida.

Icing and moderate turbulence lead to a phenomenon called Mach tuck. It is common in Learjet 60’s and older Learjet’s.

Essentially, you exceed the maximum airspeed at altitude and it is unrecoverable to the point that you continue to speed up while not being able to produce lift with your wings. Further description: your coefficient of lift eventually moves too far behind the wing making it impossible to produce lift, this causes the aircraft to lose altitude like a falling dart, in turn gaining airspeed and crashing.

All Pilots are aware of this, some just push too close to the maximum speed threshold, and when you experience clear air turbulence or other factors like icing that would push you too far past the maximum speed threshold without the capability to control the wing normally, this happens.

Long story short...icing changes the shape of the wing critically and adds weight to plane (double whammy, but mainly airflow issue over the wing), Learjets are vulnerable to over speed situations because of the type of wing is small, sleek, and unforgiving in the name of efficiency and performance, mix all of that together with moderate turbulence which can fluctuate your airspeed, this causes the aircraft to enter Mach tuck over speed condition.

The result is a lawn dart scenario that you see here. Very sad.

Exactly. I don’t know. Likely isn’t “I know what happened” wtf is wrong with folks reading comprehension?

I wonder if this is the fastest descent recorded by ADS-B on a civilian aircraft. And the reading was the limit of the reporting tool - we may not ever know how much faster that jet was descending.

Those of you saying it looks like a missile are right.

I’m honestly shocked the copilot was oriented enough to speak at all during that descent. It must have been extremely violent and intensely scary.

They need to find the missing stabilizers.

Someone on a pilot forum suggested it could have been nearing the sound barrier if it lost speed control but idk if that’s possible.

X Video from the trailer park by the crash showing blood on a truck and small chunks of flesh and meat with some of the small plane parts scattered all over

The amount of morons I’m already seeing on facebook with the whole “where is the wreckage” and “it was close to Mar-a-lago” claims. The plane went completely vertical into asphalt at 600mph and they want to see an air frame to prove it was a plane.

I can’t empathize with those wanting to see the gore of the situation. Awful situation… prayers for them and the families
