I mean your question makes no sense

The police took the driver of the car suspected of a shooting into the police station, questioned him, and then let him go

Why are you confused?

If I understand it correctly, we're born with it, so you'd think we can keep it.

wasn't that the reason for the dispatch?

A vehicle matching the description, right? Thats a far cry from making a shooting justifiable by claiming he was trying to protect this kids future victims

From the comments:

quote:

They were shooting at him because guy had just run out of a car from which a person or persons (aka gang bangers) had just shot someone on the street. No way for the cops to know for sure which ones had guns and which ones didn't - but for sure AT LEAST ONE OF THEM HAD A GUN. Experts have testified in numerous court cases that if a criminal with a gun is being chased by cops, that criminal can suddenly aim behind him and fire at the police officer before the police officer can react. And there have been cases where police officers chasing criminals have been shot and killed in this exact way. The shooting was justified. That said, it's sad to see a 17 year old who might have been just in the wrong car at the wrong time lose his life. It's too bad he chose to run.?

Could have been fleeing during the commission of a violent felony.

I don't think race is going to mean much .

But the current path leads directly to a police state nationwide.

from other facts it appears that was a pursuit of suspected felons...armed felons. The cops did what they were trained to do---no way they knew he was not armed. Looks (not just from the video) like this was justified. Hindsight information that he was not armed will not make this a bad shoot. For those of you crucifying these cops; put yourself in their position. What would you have done? Let him turn around and shoot you? Let him take a hostage down the street? Stupid is as stupid does.......

We are. But when you run from the police when you are a suspected felon involved in a shooting, you are endangering the public to a degree where deadly force can be taken to protect them

I am not sympathetic to any individual who doesn't comply with police commands. The only problem I have is "suspected" of committing a crime. I mean if the cops saw you commit the felony and then you run and they shoot, ok, I can understand that. But if cops get a radio that says "suspects are african american males in a white sedan" and they just pull over a nearby white sedan with black guys in it...that cop has no idea if the individuals were involved

Actually seems like a good way for a rival gang to have the police do their dirty work. Call the police, report a drive by shooting, give them description of vehicle that rival gang is in, hope one of them runs or does something stupid...let the cops do the killing for you.

I don't care what else there is to the story, you cannot shoot an unarmed person in the back as they run away from you.

Period.

I cannot believe people in here are saying "wait for more to the story". What else could there be? He is clearly running away and is shot in the back.

When can you shoot an unarmed person in the back like this as they run away from you?

Guy wasn't running at anyone to harm them, he was clearly fleeing the scene.

If police protocol says otherwise, that's fricked.

As a cop or civilian? In Texas, I can shoot a robber fleeing my house if it’s the only way I can retrieve my stolen property.
