When LSU moved its campus from downtown to its current location.
Totally ruined the area between downtown and campus and subsequently ruined the rest of the city because that is all BR was at the time.

This area is getting better. The street car would've helped, but it wasn't specifically aiming to help black people so the mayor fricked it in the butt.

Exxon.
It put BR on the map & destroyed it at the same time.
please explain. Exxon is one of the few reasons BR is still on the map.

That's what I figured. BR was on the slide long before Katrina. I remember visiting friend's parent's houses during the late 1990s in neighborhoods with 1,800-2,500 sqft houses similar to those in Metairie. I noticed that the neighborhood was changing and burglar bars were going on widows. Reminded me of the decline of New Orleans East during the late 1980s.

When that judge started the order to bus kids all over the Damn place. Destroyed the entire school system so that they would all be equally bad.

About 75% of what would be considered South BR is still pretty nice. There is a decent amount of old money in certain areas. In the 90s there were still several decent neighborhoods in NBR but that's not the case anymore.

We never really had a chance.

Hard to argue against the desegregation case as BR’s turning point. Had a girlfriend in early 90s who was bussed from about 1/4 mile from Woodlawn all the way down to Lee High. Or whatever they’re calling it these days. Anyway, she literally could have walked to school at Woodlawn, but Judge Parker believed it was better for her to ride a bus for 2 hours every day.
Her parents couldn’t leave that area, but you can damn sure bet that anyone with means to leave would’ve definitely left sooner than later.
Yeah, Judge Parker pretty much destroyed Baton Rouge. I don't think there is any doubt about it. He didn't have to order busing, but he did it anyway. EBR schools had already been desegregated by the previous federal judge handling the case, and when he got it, he decided to take it a step further and force integration, which destroyed neighborhood schools, which caused the middle class to leave Baton Rouge.

I'm curious as to how we have neighborhood schools in the burbs in Texas. They are clearly segregated in many instances. I guess since they are broken up more via whites/Hispanics maybe it isn't a "problem". Maybe is Texas had a more significant AA population it would be different.
Just for instance these two schools aren't even five minutes and three miles apart on the same street. Not that I'm complaining because my Kid will be at the new Bridgeland HS where a lot of those Ranch kids go to.
Cy Springs
AA 29%
Hispanic 53%
White 10%
Asian 5%
Economically Disadvantaged 67%
Cy Ranch
AA 11%
Hispanic 21%
White 53%
Asian 11%
Economically Disadvantaged 12%

. Kind of hard for a parent with no vehicle to get a lift from downtown to Woodlawn for a PTA meeting.
They wouldn't even bother getting a ride to work.

Well the interstate had more to do with that area turning to shite than LSU moving a little ways down the road.

One of these threads again? I mean some areas are way better than they were even 5 years ago so your query is highly subjective.

That's a no brainer...
Posted on 3/22/18 at 10:11 am to PiscesTiger
Busing instead of a more pragmatic approach to integrating schools.

It takes someone with a sociopathic bent to get off on these threads. Its like you would rather accentuate all you perceive as bad instead of focusing in what is good. People like you will never be happy. Its as though you want it to get worse. Sick fricking mentality. Get out and make it better.
When I was in the Army stationed near Denver the barracks were full of sociopaths who just hated being sent there. Couldn't find one good fricking thing to say about Denver. Some people just need a good bitch slap.
Sorry for the rant.
