Pentecostal (at least her family is but I don't know him or his family) so I doubt they were out getting drunk

none of that matters, he committed a crime when he put human beings in that helicopter and started the engine, he was an a-hole, apparent egomaniac, and murderer, what compounds this is what he did more than likely nullifies any life insurance policies that he may have had and, iirc, he had three children from his previous marriage

Idc who it is. Still crazy to get in a helicopter with someone not licensed

There's a pic of power lines in the article. Wonder if they came into play while trying to land

The report said there was no powerline strike during the crash.

I’ll bet you she had no idea he had no certifications at all.

Was the weather so bad that he couldn't just hover the copter till he figured things out?
I guess at night an inexperienced pilot is just screwed without out a visual reference?
Very sad he did this to his family.

Visual Meteorological Conditions, but it was dark. Dark can be fatal.
What I don't understand is the student pilot had 139 hours, nearly 4x the number to be licensed? Why wasn't he licensed?

It happened North of Iowa, LA. Just East of Moss Bluff

The Prelim also states there is no record of him having a medical certificate as well.

That makes me wonder about his vision and eyesight. Four times the training hours to get his license but couldn’t/ wouldn’t get the medical license?

She was asking a different question

That stood out to me the first time I read it. A 3rd class medical is not a big deal, unless it is...
