Might wanna check that for authenticity. Pretty certain Syd Barret was the front man for Pink Floyd in '66.Gilmour didn't come along until April '67. Barret was with the band until '68.

Went to Murphy for vocational classes for HVAC my junior and senior year. My mom R.I.P. graduated from there as well.

PVille had a racetrack back then. Lot of nascar greats raced on that track. Petty for one.
Allegedly when the track was being built, teamsters had a superintendent run over with a roller, because of refusal to use union labor (or something like that). That story was told to me by an old bar fly in a daiquiri shop on hwy 42 when I was working there in college.

Not sure of the legitimacy of the story but the Teamsters leader at that point was one Ed "Grady" Partin, and he had a LOT to do with the construction of Pelican International Raceway. The track is rumored to have been partially built by the Louisiana Highway Department using taxpayer-bought material. FWIW

yep, I had forgotten about that part of the story. I believe they were upgrading Airline(Hwy 61)through Ascension at the time. It's been almost 20 years since I'd heard the story. that old regular had all kinds of stories.
My favorite was the real reason Paul Dietzel left LSU was because he allegedly slept with some mob guy from New Orleans girlfriend or wife. Mob guy said get lost or stick around and get dead.

BTW, the second one is correct. The crash occurred in what is today the Harahan/Elmwood area.

I do know that the steel structure used to build the bleachers was fabricated for the building of the Texaco refinery located by the Sunshine bridge. I worked at this refinery in the '70 and 80's and was told about this. I went to this race track a couple of times and looked at the steel. YEP, it had writhing on the steel that identified it as Texaco material.
I was also told that some of the labor to build the race track came from the refinery construction work force.
