My dads best friend, a POW shot down over German occupied territory. Max Little was shot down Feb 14, 1945. Was the kindest person in the world, had a terrible stutter from being a POW.

The commemorative coins released by the US Mint for this occasion are arguably the apex of Numismatic Art in the history of the US. The Mint building itself survived the earthquake and subsequent fire but was surrounded by destroyed blocks of buildings.
The 5 coin set includes two varieties of a $50 gold piece, one being octagonal.
The smallest coin is a stunning $1.00 gold piece-
The $2.50 gold piece is it’s equal in quality, illustrating the triumph of medicine in the Panama exploit:
The Half Dollar has the wonderful “Imperial” seal of the US on the reverse -
The the two varieties of the $50.00 gold coins with Minerva and the Greek Owl devices are, taken together, easily in the Top 5 designs of all US Coins ever produced:
The octagonal coin is currently at around $70k value for a circulated specimen and $125k or more for an uncirculated coin.
Both of the $50.00 coins each contain just under 3 ounces of 90% gold/10% copper alloy. They are huge and impressive coins.

Annette Funicello and Officer Toody
One of the darlings of "The Mickey Mouse Club" when it was in its hey-day and frequent star in teen "Beach" movies with male teen idols of the time like Frankie Avalon.
Officer Toody, played by Joe E. Ross, was one of the regulars on "Car 54 Where Are You" with Fred Gwynn and Al Lewis and a host of others.
Gwynn and Lewis went on to star in "The Munsters" a few years after Car 54 went off the air.

Annette had a couple of amazing qualities.
She was dealt a blow at age 44 with being diagnosed with MS and it took a pretty heavy toll on her health and led to her death at age 70 from complications.
She lost her ability to walk in 04, speak in 09 and then needing a feeding tube not long after. She endured 4 more years before passing in 2013 at age 70.

I had Lincoln Log Sets when I was a kid and the ones I had included green wooden material to make roofing and red wooden pieces to act as chimneys.
Over my younger years I'd get one just about every year for Christmas, so I had quite a collection.
Once I got an Erector Set and Lincoln Logs went by the wayside.
