My father was a flight instructor in Tampa in WWII. I remember him reminiscing with old buddies with the quip; "One a day in Tampa Bay."
He started flying when he was 14 and did crop dusting in high school. He loved that plane for its performance, but it was unforgiving for new pilots. Being able to land it with grace got him diverted from flying The Hump which has a lot to do with being here.

Neat story about your dad! Neat photo of that B-26 as well!

God bless him for his service and all those young men who fought for our country. We are free today because of their sacrifice.
My dad fought in the South Pacific. Only 18 years old. He was a torpedo man on PT 220, Squadron 16. They were engaged in action in the Philippines. They were instrumental in the battle of Mindoro rescuing US Navy and Army Air Forces aircrew who were stranded behind enemy lines. Kills; 1 sub, 1 destroyer and 2 kamikazes.
He was on Red Beach on the Island of Leyte when MacArthur return to the Philippines. I have numerous photos (including one of MacArthurs return), but I can’t figure out how to upload them regardless the instructions in help.
He died in 2006 and never once spoke a word about his service and what he went through just like most of the vets from WWII. When my mother died I found a treasure trove of photos from his service. Fortunately most were labeled on the back of the photo, some with names and addresses with those he served with. Remarkably I was able to track down two crew mates.
We have shared photos with one another. I was even able to get a 200+ page dairy from someone he served with. God bless our WWII vets. If they were alive today they would question why they served. They fought to prevent what is now happening in our country. Communism.
