Spinoff from the turbo thread.

quote:

The 2019 GMC Syclone is fast, very fast. Still, it is not the 1991 truck, nor were we expecting it to be. But it is fast, nonetheless. This new Syclone is a bigger truck too, yet it sprints from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds, only 0.3 seconds slower than the 1991 truck, despite being a much heavier vehicle.

Saw this on Jay Leno's garage. Apparently that was his daily driver in the early 90's

Fun fact: those were built/modified in Shreveport

The original GMC Syclone from 1991 was a 280-horsepower (remember this was 1991) all-wheel-drive compact truck that would reach 60 miles per hour from a standstill in only 4.3 seconds. That is 0.1 seconds faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo of the time and a whopping 0.6 seconds faster than the Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 that year.

Dang, I had forgotten it was AWD.

Syclones were fast as hell for their time but they didn't clip 0-60 in 4.2 seconds that I recall.

speaking of ZR1 Vette of the time. The motor in that car was made by Mercury Marine.

Road and Track says they could do 4.3.

That's almost a full second faster than a Testarossa.

Thread reminds me, Does anyone remember the Louisiana Lottery 4x4 trucks in the Mid 90's. I think they were a S10 or Sonoma. Had a guy who bought one from someone who couldn't afford the taxes. I think it was branded as LA Hot Sauce truck or something like that.
