Picking out an engagement ring

Hello OT friends. I'm looking at picking out a ring for my girlfriend and could use some help. I'm trying to figure out what she would like but need to do so subtly. Last Christmas I bought her a necklace and found out she did not like silver. What are some good ways to find out more?
As always, thanks for sharing the wisdom of some of the greatest minds to walk planet earth.

You’ll get a bunch of bullshite with this question, but just take her looking and figure out what she wants. Ideally, she is going to wear this the rest of her life. You don’t want to just guess, especially dropping the kids of cash you kids do now on this.

Buy her something similar to a piece her hot friend has, but bigger.

Buy her a new rifle. That you store for her.

DO NOT give it to her for Christmas or a birthday. (It's a contract, not a gift.)

I was gonna do it on new years

I didn’t get the idea that this was an engagement ring

A toaster, on the other hand, can be used to toast bread which can then be used to make you a sandwich.

2020 wasn't bad enough for you? Now, you want to shoot 2021 straight to hell before it even gets started?

Ask one of her good friends, I’m sure they discuss it. Although, the friend might go blabbing to said girlfriend

Just buy a big round cut diamond and a small gold band with tiny diamonds embedded. Literally every (normal) girl on the planet likes that.

Spend it on hookers and blow.
If you still want to do it after spending that, save it up again and get you one

Buying an engagement ring is about as hard as buying a steak, albeit more expensive.
Get the biggest damn diamond you can afford.
Don't get a bunch of little diamonds that try to add up to one big diamond.
Don't try to jazz things up with a fancy setting or cut. The setting should be about as obvious as the lug nuts on a 20" wheel. The cut should be a simple circle.
(ETA I was basically beaten to this by jacksajester.)

Just buy a nice diamond. Give it to her and tell her you want to take her to get it set.

Bring her ring shopping. Unless you already have an idea what she likes, you're just going to disappoint her. After that don't mention the ring until you give it to her.
