The marriage thread got me to thinking about affairs in marriages. I've looked at statistics where roughly 20% of men and 15% of women have cheated on their spouses. I'd say the true number is much, much higher - if you combine emotional and physical affairs, I'd say that number tops well over 50%. Easily.

To me, an emotional affair is just as bad as a physical one. Sure, maybe they aren't fricking someone else but their mind/heart/lips are in someone else's yard. Emotional affairs could possibly even be worse as they are the emotional side of things.

What does the OT say?

An emotional affair is just the removal of a burden.

Both would be hard to recover from.

I suppose it depends on if the emotional affair led to a physical affair instead of just a "f*ck". If that is the case, it would be tough to separate emotionally.

No such thing.

You're either friends or family.

OR

You're fricking

Well scripturally they are the same thing. But just practically, you're setting yourself up for failure regardless, and eventually it will lead to a "physical affair".

And come on, if you're a guy, there's only so much emotional equity you'll build up before you want to cash in.

In love with someone that's not your spouse versus screwing a stripper?

That's how I read this.

that is probably because either you are a woman or you are gay.

The amount of lying that comes with an emotional affair would seem to be far greater than a physical one. It would be like playing charades 24/7. I don't see how one's spouse could recover from that and ever trust their partner again.

Neither are a big deal any more. Everyone cheats on their SO

I can't tell you how many times I've been cheated on. It sucks but you get used to it after a while.

Emotional affair's don't exist. You're being ridiculous if you feel this is happening to you.

Everybody thinks about cheating, it's doing it that makes you a shitty person

Lets say you are married. Your wife starts talking about your marriage to another guy, maybe a guy at work or a guy friend online. Talking leads to complaining which leads to support which leads to feelings being developed, etc. Affairs aren't always about fricking. A person could always fall for someone else and never frick them...

Granted, most emotional affairs lead to physical ones, but all affairs start out emotionally.

Emotional affairs never stay purely emotional if they last any length of time.
