After the band became bigger than the show

actually their(Monkees) insistence(ego) on actually being the band led to the end of the golden goose, which was the show, they truly were the pre-fab four and should have milked that for as long as they could have, I think they were pretty much broke and forgotten(except Nesmith,) until the nostalgia fad set in and they started "touring" again

Jimi Hendrix opened for the Monkees

I read somewhere that jimi was playing and the crowd kept screaming for the Monkees, jimi got pissed, flipped off the crowd and walked off the stage.

A little Monkee Trivia here. Mike Nesmith's mother was the inventor of Liquid Paper and sold the company she formed for $48 million dollars shortly before she died.

If the company still exists it cant be worth much, bet the people that bought it thought there would never be a day liquid paper would not be needed.

Saw them in the late 80's when their show was on MTV all the time and they went on tour. It was a pretty great show.

They still sell liquid paper correction fluid. Not much call for it now though with all the advances in technology.

It still baffles me that the Monkees aren’t in the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

I don't think it exists. I believe when Monkee Mom sold the company, it was bought by a bigger company and ceased to be its own thing. They still sell the shite out of those tape things and liquid paper pens, though I can't remember the last time I saw a bottle of actual liquid paper. I go through about one of the tape things a month. I frick up a lot, as my statements in this thread can attest.

Which begat the popular joke...how do you know if a blonde's been using your computer? There's Liquid Paper on the screen. :rimshot:

It's hard to diminish something at rock bottom. You'd have to dig, like you're excavating a basement.

For pretending to be musicians?
“Who’s on First?” is in Cooperstown. The Monkees would basically be that.

Nesmith was a actual guitar player/musician,

Yep, and he was a songwriter as well. Perhaps his best known work is "Different Drum" by Stone Ponies (Linda Ronstadt on lead vocals).

He also wrote "What Am I Doin' Hangin' Round", which is a little country ditty the Monkees performed. One of my favorite tracks by them.
