We can split hairs then, "almost" all of the music was played by LA session musicians, its pretty common knowledge, and easy enough to Google, I don't have time.
On the first album they played no instruments, it was all played by session musicians including James Burton, Glen Campbell, and other members of the famous LA "Wrecking Crew" On subsequent albums they were allowed to contribute individually on some songs, but never as a band. LA Session guitarist Louie Shelton created the guitar riff on "Last Train to Clarksville", and became the main guitarist on most of their albums. They were allowed by producer Don Kirshner to contribute musically only as individuals on some songs, but never as a group. There was only one album they produced themselves where they all actually played a instrument. They were trying to validate themselves as a actual group, but they were still heavily supported by studio musicians. Also, if you look at the discography of their recording, they wrote very, very, few of the songs.

Funny to read this thread full of all the fake Monkee’s know it alls. Read the article and maybe a quick wiki and all are music critics.
And Mike Rowe has a good podcast on Davey Jones on The Way I Heard I.

Add Carol Kaye to that list. She was big contributor with the wrecking crew guys.
For the downvoter:
She appeared on sessions by Frank Sinatra, Simon and Garfunkel, Stevie Wonder, Barbra Streisand, The Supremes, The Temptations, the Four Tops and The Monkees.

Carole King, Neil Diamond, David Gates wrote a lot of the Monkees hits.
