Damn. True New Orleans legend. I hope his walking club continues in his honor.

My dad used to play music with Pete. I have a really cool pic of my dad playing a solo at Jazzfest with Pete standing next to him listening. They had some good times as well on Mardi Gras day doing the half fast marching club festivities.

I believe Pete still holds the record for most guest appearances on the tonight show. Johnnie Carson loved having Pete on. Great ambassador to the city.

What a great man and a great musician. He was around the age of my father, who was a huge fan. Dad would reminisce about regularly watching Pete play on a river boat in New Orleans when they were both in their 20's. He owned dozens of Pete's albums.

My Dad died 28 years ago and Pete's death makes me sad, like I'm losing my father again.

Indeed. I made it to Washington Ave (I believe) once to watch him & band at 7am get Mardi Gras day started. In the context of the complete NO fat tues experience, this was a highlight.

But I do expect the spirit and show will live on.
