I have an honorary doctorate but do not call myself Dr or ask anyone else to do it.

If you can’t prescribe me medication then you aren’t a doctor. Nobody gives a damn you went to school for 12 years for criminology, sociology, or any silly shite like that.

This is dumb. Again, the title of "Doctor" had been used for PhDs for hundreds of years before there was a concept of a licensed person who could prescribe medication for you.

Are you a doctor of sociology?

I’m not referring to someone as a doctor because they had the time to go to school for 12-15 years. It’s ridiculous when people who have useless degrees insist on being referred to as a doctor.

Outside of work I prefer people don’t know I’m a Doctor.

Your phenomenal grasp of the English language suggests otherwise.

This topic is about as useful as arguing about how many angels can fit on the head of a pin...

... and gets brought up far too often.

I guess OT stands for "Old Topic"

One of my peers in med school was a DC (“doctor” of chiropractor). And she would insist she was a doctor already because of that title. Had it on her social media, wanted it on her white coat (denied), and would tell people (not patients though) she met

That being said she was a pretty good student though definitely a bit uptight

Conversely we had another student a year ahead of us that had an actual PhD. In the hard sciences too not some liberal arts one. But she would never call herself Dr because of it unless it was for research stuff

Who is asking you to do so? Do you work in an academic setting? Are you that fragile?

What's wrong with "some liberal arts one"?

If you go that far in hard sciences, you are smart.

If you go that far in liberal arts, you may be smart but you are definitely a commie.

Good morning, Dr. Frog. I'll call people doctor if they have a PhD in something, if we happen to be in their area of expertise. But I'll also let them know. I think it's pathetically shallow...

The entire premise of this thread is flawed. If a person has earned the title of Doctor, then they are a Doctor. You can be a Doctor of any number of concentrations. Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Theology, etc., etc. Refusal to acknowledge this just seems like some uneducated knucklehead being obstinate out of ignorance.

I’m sorry, but you are probably not a Saint yet you pretend to be.

Same thing as a non-medical doctor.

My PA can prescribe me medication, does that make her a Doctor?

No need, you have done so in many threads.

Lol, a username versus an earned degree? What a dumb comparison.

Doctor as a title for non-medical things is older than medical doctor. All of this "you're not a real doctor" rigamarole comes across as hillbilly stupidity.

I have posted this before.

Medical doctor friend told me he was going to put RD after his MD on his office door.

He wanted people know he was a real doctor.
