You see it again and again. Large company conducts mass layoffs to remote employees all over the world, those employees then run to twitter to complain "They laid us off over Zoom!"

What other method could they possibly expect. They interview and work fully remotely, have never set foot inside the company's HQ, and are then expecting a round trip invite to get fired?

Same people will bitch if they fired in person.

“They made me come to the office when they could have just fired me over zoom”

I’d be more worried bout being laid off. Haven’t experienced this but it’s believable so I may upvote

My gripe would be about the layoff and not the delivery of the message. Send it by carrier pigeon, maybe I’ll get an extra day of work out the deal.

I got laid off by overnight FedEx once. This was before Zoom was a thing.

I was laid off at the start of Covid (turned out to be the best thing that has happened to me in a long time) they held a 3 minute company wide Zoom and said we are letting some of you go, you will get an email soon if you are laid off. The Zoom ended and I immediately got my email. After 8 years of work, it was extremely unprofessional and awful. A simple 1 on 1 Zoom or phone call would have felt more authentic (company had less than 100 employees total so very realistic).

I’ve seen complaints over mass online layoffs, but the group part seemed to be the bigger issue not the zoom piece

I had the same zoom meeting "pushed forward" today and then canceled. BOTH well after they were suppose to start. I was suppose to get an email summary of what the meeting was suppose to be about but that didn't happen either. I guess it is better than getting fired, or maybe I would be better off...

That George Clooney tried to warn us about this in 2009.

I've been laid off via phone call when I worked remote. What do people expect? They aren't wasting another dime on you if they don't need to.
