Not everyone at work wants to talk. They get paid to work.
Why do you think people get pissed off on Monday morning when people come in to work and wanna conquer the world and are super pumped to be back at work and in a Monday morning meeting.
There are alot of people that just want to be left the frick alone.
If they are doing their work, leave them to it

I work in a cubicle office. The guy that sits behind me eats and drink and so loudly that I need my earbuds in or else I'd flip out.

Anytime I walk up to ask someone something at the gym, they pull their earbud out. You're scenario doesn't seem plausible.

Think it depends on the job. If your job requires you to interact with others…maybe. But I used to be a reporter at a newspaper and it wasn’t uncommon for most everyone to walk around with at least one AirPod in, especially if they were away from their phone and needed to still answer their phone if someone called. I don’t think having both AirPods or even just one is that bad
Full on Bose headphones that cover both ears is a different story, though

I think that there is an etiquette to it. I have mine in at my desk if nothing is really going on, but if someone is in my vicinity and I feel like they may want to talk to me, I will take one out. Same if I am walking around, or in the kitchen or something.

What’s worse is people sitting on a machine scrolling through FB or IG.
Do that shite at home you fricking addict.

Just walk up and put your quarter on top. Then they'll know that you've got next.

I’ve come to realize the constant earbuds usage is just another form of my ADD rearing its head.
Just want to avoid the silence. Be distracted etc.
I don’t know if anyone else feels that way.

All the old people think we have a headphone in to not talk to others lmao. Its a vehicle for listening to things and watching things or talking on phone without disturbing others. It has zero to do with others and we arent ignoring anyone. I know for a fact that your employees, if talked to while walking by, would still respond to your dumb arse old person comment that isnt funny in the least bit.

In the safety world, lots of companies are adapting no earbuds policies in factories, warehouses and construction sites. There have been a lot people ran over by equipment like forklifts because they were wondering around oblivious to their surroundings.

There are lots of posts that confirm that people do it for that very reason, baw. I didn’t just make that up.

That’s my approach. Seems to be a fair compromise to me.

When I would go into the office, I’d keep airpods in my ears pretty much all the time at my desk.
I’d always take mine out if I left my desk just in case someone wanted to chat but I have no idea why someone wearing them would bother you. It sounds kinda narcissistic tbh. Like everyone around you needs to be ready to listen to you on demand or something.

Okay Boomer..
1) You can take calls and Teams meetings from anywhere in the office and not be locked to your desk.
2) It drowns out people like the OP so we don't have to hear their Boomer BS in the office

Maybe nobody wants to have to hear you say: "How 'bout this weather?" or "How 'bout dem Saints?" every time they go to the water cooler.
